Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Hi, does anyone know anything about this Phantom III just restored in India. I am pretty sure that it is the Hooper body from chassis 3DL66. Any information REALLY appreciated.

Some experts believe that this Rolls Royce is Chassis 61-CW. The car was ordered and delivered to H.H. The Nawab of Jaora, India in the 1920s. My Great-Great-Grand father appears to have bought this RR from him subsequently. I have obtained the Chassis card/Order card of this car, which can be seen below.

Since Vintage Khan informed us that the car was owned at some time by Rasool's son, Naheeb, this is all consistent and I think it confirms the id. of the car. It had an "engine turned aluminium dashboard" like the Bugattis.

Anything could have happened to it, scrapped, exported, one will have to wait till something comes up. Many such cars were rebodied to a bus or shooting brake, Bombay had a RR hearse, surely rebodied. You should try to follow up with the owners family what they did with the car. And then keep a lookout whenever a Rolls surfaces and check its ID. There are still a few Rolls Royce cars in India locked up and their ID has not been recorded. Like the car used for religious purposes in Kolkatta, if she still exists.
Good Luck, may one day the fate of 61 CW become known.

Cheers harit

Great news !

A request on the FB page of RR and Bentley motor cars by Vintage Khan today led to the information on 61CW.

Many thanks to the fantastic efforts of Rob Geelen in managing the great FB page and Henk Gerritsen for providing the info and pictures.

Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

The car in the Cussler museum is 58NE, with its original Park Ward 2-door cabriolet. (i.e. not 61CW)

Today went for servicing of Hexa to the Sanghi Motors TASS, Indore, where this beauty was parked! There was another vintage covered in tbe garage. On searching over the Internet found out that Mr. Sharad Sanghi, one of the directors of the said dealership is one of the largest vintage car collectors in the country!
Anything on the history of this car?

Re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

I have more information about this car, which was put together from a number of chassis in the USA, and imported into India in 2016. The main chassis frame is from 3AZ60, the engine from 3BT135, the body is from 3DL66 and other pieces from 3CP30. The chassis plate identifies the car as 3CP30.

This 1937 Rolls-Royce 25/30 HP Gurney Nutting was on display at Hotel Claridges (New Delhi) during the Rolls Royce Cullinan launch last month.

This is 1937 Rolls-Royce 25/30 hp Gurney Nutting all-weather tourer GRO48, ex-Maharajadhiraja of Darbhanga.
It is the subject of a 1:43 scale resin replica by Matrix Scale Models of The Netherlands.

Hey jimmy. what in particular is unique about chassis 3CP30? If I'm not mistaken, its an American import (assuming by the white-wall tyres), done up by Ranjit Malik (i believe). Someone has posted a few pictures of the car on pg.165.
Happened to pass it once near the Chattarpur metro, but just seemed like a regular PIII.
The colour does look quite nice though.
If im not wrong, the same people have restored quite a few American import Rolls & Bentleys.
