Not sure if this was posted before, but here's another shot of the Patiala Silver Ghost as mentioned by Karl.

Thanks, have not seen this before. It is almost certainly chassis 52CW.

Apologize for the small size. Here is the Calcutta Satyanarayana Temple RR Silver Ghost, Chassis 6UE. It is ex-Rudyard Kipling.

In my opinion, one of the prettiest of the Indian Phantom II's. Notice it retains its Indian licence plate.

Would be nice if "The Doc" gets this one too !

My mind had become jaded (or my senses numbed) after the "Maharaja Class" at Pebble Beach 2012. Never thought a Maharaja car would excite me again - that is until yesterday.

50XJ is to be seen to be believed. The draughtmen and "panel beaters" at Barker, were either masters "of the line" or of "illusion". What if they had CAD and CNC machines ????

The attention to detail is.....I have no superlatives. The car is a masterpiece of surfaces that all seem to blend into each other.

The flat doors that somehow magically merge into a compound curve bobtail rear end. A concave waistline fluted moulding that disappears into a convex tail moulding at the rear door. Front bumper attachments that look as finely crafted as the "Baroda Necklace". I could go on and on.

A few snippets from the Chassis Card:

"the Nile Blue finish is generally considered unsatisfactory and is to be rectified at Barkers".

"Cobra Horn. The BULB cellulosed Nile Blue"

Lucas wing lamp FEET for attaching Stephen Grebel wing LAMPS. Either the Lucas lamps, or Stephen Grebel feet weren't good enough for Nandgaon! The wing lamps are now Lucas!

Oh by the way, the chassis cards do not mention the ACE wheel discs or the blue visors.

The auction starts in an hour....... Got to go round up a few hundred thousand greenbacks and go bid!

May be, I can collect enough to win that Orissa Licence Plate.

Interesting to note that the cobra horn (boa constrictor?) has not been retained inspite of an exacting restoration. I think the build sheet specified whitewalls, also omitted. Possibly to avoid making the car look a little more Mickey Mouse than intended?

Happy bidding!
Karl was at PB 2012 too. He somehow seems to remain more balanced than me!

Seems that the car was sold at $625,000. How much did you get the plate for?

Can't believe its been 2 years already! Whatever happened to the Pithapuram Phantom I 57EF that we saw? It remained unsold at the Goodings auction if I remember.

Looks like it sold towards the low end of the range

re: Classic Rolls Royces in India

Dear Friends,
Found this old picture of my grandfather's first RR. Another picture of the same car has been posted on this forum earler. It was identified as one of two RR's that came to India together. Grandfather was known as Mohd. Lutf uddin Khan, before being titled Lutf-ud-Dowla. Would love to know where this car has gone, and it's present location!
Note the Hyderabad licence plate! H 155!

Many thanks for another wonderful picture!

I am assuming the two pictures below show the same car. The car seems to have had some updates - like adding streamlined wing lamps and bumper. The dates on the two pictures may need to be verified (1922 / 1925)

Classic Rolls Royces in India-nawab-luftuddin-silver-ghost-2328.jpg

This car is most likely Chassis 2328 from 1913 - Post Office Red, Red Leather, Domed Wings and Wire Wheels.

Silver Ghost cars I have listed for Nawab Moin-ud-Dowla are: Chassis 1402, 1685 (2nd hand after Nawab Salar Yar Jung); and 1782

Nawab Salar Yar Jung also had Chassis 1692

Off topic, but interesting however!

Travancore,
So glad the pic was appreciated. The date of 1922 was the closest I could get from the date written at the back of the pic, written in the Hijri calender, in Urdu. Apologies if it wewnt wrong by a year or two. Thank you for the picture of the crest on the gun....Wonderful!!

The 1922 date is probably correct, due to the updates I had mentioned. The other picture (dated circa 1925) is probably much earlier. The car is from 1913.

Bu the way there are pictures of some fabulous guns of Nawab Moin-ud-Dowla and other Maharajas on the web as well! Just search for Nawab "Holland and Holland". One of them below:
