If the numberplate is USQ, then that is a Lucknow registration. The preceding registration for Lucknow was USJ.

not neccecerily a Grebel, it could be a Lucidus, which is very similar. I have a huge one which i got many years ago. it came from Kanpur, and the previous owner thought it was a spotlight from an army tank. I got it in exchange for some swivelling spotlights i had got made for my Gypsy, using army disposal GAZ headlights, which he used on his Tata Sumo. the Lucidus was too big and heavy for the Sumo...

Our next car in the list of Phantom IIIs in India is 3BU76.

This chassis left the factory on 31 December 1936 (the last of the '1936' cars!), and had engine T18H and E type steering. It had been designated for use in India. On 15 January 1937 the chassis was sent from the RR London depot at Lille Hall to the coachbuilders Barker & Co.

Barker built a sedanca de ville on the chassis, fitted with a spare wheel to each side. The car was finished in pale blue with silver-paint side panels. The upholstery was in blue leather to the front and blue cloth to the rear; it had side-facing occasional seats, and black Purdah glass to the rear windows. The interior was "lavishly equipped".

The car was registered with English number DYK487, and was delivered on 24 June 1937 (5 months in the building!). On 25 September it was shipped to Bombay on the ss "Cathay", so it may have been used in England for a few months.

The order for the car was placed with Barker & Co. by the Maharaja Sir Man Singh Bahadur II of Jaipur (21 August 1911 - 24 June 1970); he was the 38th Maharaja and succeeded on 7 September 1922.

It seems the car was sent to England when the Maharaja died; it was put up for auction in London on 4 November 1970 (but did not sell at a bid of 2,900 pounds), described as in totally original condition with 20,000 miles on it. The car was then for sale by a couple of London dealers in 1970-71 (Motor Sport Dec 1970 and July & Oct 1971). Eventually it was sold at auction at Beaulieu in July 1972. It was bought by Hon. Alan Clark (a Minister in Margaret Thatcher's government) and is believed still to be owned by his estate.

The magnificent Rolls Royce chassis 3BU76 has re-surfaced in the USA and will be auctioned next month.

At last, chassis 32PP, ex Patiala, makes her debut on Team-BHP after completion. The 1919 Rolls-Royce 40-50 h.p. Silver Ghost High-Speed Alpine Eagle with Barker polished Torpedo Skiff body. The car is proudly owned by none other than John Fasal, who needs no introduction.

This car from Calcutta was seen in the Satyajit Ray's Bengali film Seemabaddha (1971). Charecter actor Harendranath Chattopadhyaya was chaffuer driven in this RR. Wonder if it still survives.

Incidentally this great car sold for just USD 55,000/- at the MECUM auction in August 2019.
