Yes, this is the car used in Octopussy. It is a 1934 Phantom II, Chassis # 181RY and was originally owned by Maharaja Vijay Singh of Rajpipla. It is mentioned in the book "The History of Windovers" (even thogh the caption says Chassis No. 181R4)

This is a Silver Ghost hard to tell the year but there are no front brakes so its not a late one. Love the scalloped mudguards

The car with flared fenders / mudguards is a 1919 RR Silver Ghost, owned by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala. The design of the flared mudguards supposedly kept dust away from the passengers.

The car is shown in the book Rolls Royce 70 years of Tests, compiled by Peter Garnier published by Autocar / Chartwell books (on page 44) along with a couple of Alwar cars. I also do have a picture after it was modified with rather ugly fenders (same ones it has today ???)

Thank for the link to this lovely photo, regarding posting copyright material I consulted with the admin of this site and they informed me it is alright to post from publications as long as there is a bold reference to the source of the material. This is for innocent, educational non commercial purpose and I feel that bearing in mind this is an Indian motoring forum and that so many cars were looted out of India the least that can be allowed is the use of a few photos even if the cars never come back. Many cars were smuggled out now worth millions so who should hang their heads in shame over a few photos.

A old photo which I found in one grandfathers files.. this photographs was taken by Arun Studio, Rajkot, Gujarat. Rumour was that this rolls was for sale.

I think the first alphabet in the number plate could be a 'S'

This is a 1937 PIII, Chassis 3BT121; body by Mayfair. The car is shown in the "Derby Phantoms" with the notation that it was winner of the Coupe de l'Exposition, Frannce 1937 - it is possible that the Maharaja bought it from the show (as was often customary)

The car (now white) seems to owned by the Vale Wedding Cars Ltd, London whose website the following are from:

Thanks Travancore, the after market purchases always make things interesting. In fact the car is only about 6-7 miles from where we live, but I think we have enough photos to get the idea.
If I can finish it all, I'm trying to complete an upload of sales records to Indian Royalty for W.O. Bentleys, RR 20hp, PI, PII and PIII and I hope you can help fill in the gaps and oddities. If you can do Derby Bentleys, RR20/25 and 25/30 and post war it would be wonderful.

Its great to see more and more people coming forward and discussing these cars. There really is no point if one hordes all the information and pictures and takes them to their grave now is there? We have the now-one-stop-shop for just this, and I see big things happening here.
