Cross posting

A gorgeous picture of the Rewa Daimler, which I have been told was published in National Geographic magazine from late 60's.

What a beautiful car, sight for sore eyes. Wish this heritage had remained in India. Thanks for posting Kartik

The car obviously was in great shape and debunks the story that it was pulled out of the jungle by 4 elephants

Probably pictures when found

The "As Found" picture I believe is a Hispano-Suiza. And not an Indian car per the crankhandle blog authors.

Re: Daimlers in India

Here are 3 previously unknown Mysore Daimler shared by John Fazal the RR Historian.

Picture taken in 1927 of an early Daimler, probable Sleeve Valve

We do not believe that these cars survive.

DE36, which survives in Manjusha Museum, Dharmasthala, seen during Mysore Dasara in 1967

All pictures to the credit of John Fazal.

Re: Daimlers in India

There were at least two early sleeve valve Daimlers in Pakistan. One of these (shown here) was in Karachi, a 1914 seven seater Landaulet car reportedly was with a wealthy Parsi family of Karachi and eventually ended up as a gift to a Convent and nuns used it briefly before it was found to be inappropriate and costly to run and parked, eventually to be bought by Sheikh Mukhtar and his son Moinuddin Sh, 6'3" tall, is seen leaning against the even taller car. It was started but not restored and exported to UK and sold there circa mid 1983.

The other is a fabulous, fit for a king, car, with the family of the Nawab of Hoti, in Pakistan.

Dear shyml,

Thank you for these wonderful pictures and story behind the car. Sheikh Mukhtar surely knew his cars. He took some great cars out of India!

Lovely Daimler, must have been a beauty in its prime.

Cheers

Superb, thanks for sharing.

This is a well known picture of a Parsi family of Karachi. I recall the name being Icchaporia, the car does seem to match. Over to the experts to find the source and confirm.

Re: Daimlers in India

This 1949 Daimler DH27, Hooper Bodied Limousine with 150 inch wheel base has been recently restored in Delhi. Car looks great

Quote:
A batch of fifty DH 27 limousines were built for Daimler Hire, with bodies built by Hooper.[30] The DH 27 seated up to seven passengers and was equipped with air conditioning, a heater, and an electrically-operated partition between the passengers and the driver.[33]

Car looks fantastic
Daimlers in India-1.jpg

The huge wheel base is seen in this side profile. The wheel base is longer than the DE36's
Daimlers in India-2.jpg

Single carb for DH27's. The DE27's were dual carbs.

Re: Daimlers in India

Dear KPS,
Wonderful photos of the newly restored Daimler DH27.
Would Mr Malik have details of the chassis number or body number of the car for the UK Daimler Club De and DH registrar's records?
He has no details of any DH cars for India so would be very useful to help complete the records for these fantastic cars.

This Daimler 15 is seen from the 1985 Statesman Rally. The car was under the ownership of Partha Sadan Bose.

Re: Daimlers in India

An early Daimler from an album of Sir Malcolm Hailey, bearing a Punjab registration number P.2, the picture is possibly from the Governor's house, Shimla.

Happy to see the Daimler now fully restored, and with a new identity in full white. Unfortunately most of the text in this article is too small to read.
