Re: Daimlers in India

Hi Dushyant,
I think the Daimler may be a post war DB 18 because it has the larger rear window and no running boards.

As per the details we have, it is a DB 18 from 1938.

Re: Daimlers in India

Bangalore seems to have a lot of Daimlers. The Maharaja had many, now many are with collectors. Here are two more which were on the net recently show casing a collection. The text was on that site, I have slightly edited it.

Car: Daimler Maharajah
Year: 1947
Owner: Original owner was the Maharajah of Mysore. Subsequently acquired by Sulaiman’s brother in law
Story: Sulaiman’s jewel in the crown, the Maharajah's Daimler is an impressive looking car and is worthy of a king. There were very few were these made and were manufactured exclusively for the Maharaja. There is a glass divider between driver and the passengers. “The Daimler Maharajah is my most valued car, although it is difficult to drive in traffic, it’s worth the effort.”

Car: Daimler DB18
Year: 1947
Owner: L Devraj from Coimbatore, who bought it from Meenakshi Mills.
Story: The Daimler DB18 Saloon was produced from 1947 through 1953 with a total of 608 being manufactured. Devraj, Sulaiman’s friend from Coimbatore, had many cars. Knowing his friend’s love for vintage cars he decided to give this away.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

I am posting pictures of two great Daimlers owned by Cassamally J Peerbhoy.

Source from the book : The Daimler Tradition by Brian E Smith

Note the trailer for the car to carry luggage. Wonder if those are spare wheels in the trailer

Cheers

Lovely, thanks for sharing.

The gold car I guess is the Hukumchand car which is still supposed to be around, albeit in a state of neglect.

You will surely notice below that the "Elephant" on the dash board is currently out on a walk with the Maharaja.

Re: Daimlers in India

I chanced upon some old pictures. I remember seeing this Daimler Conquest in 2004 at Chennai. This car was in a workshop and I was given to understand that it was for sale. Wonder what happened to this car

Re: Daimlers in India

Forgive me for intruding on a Daimler thread, but does anyone recall a Lanchester with one Major B A S Chopra? It was a saloon, apparently stolen.
