Finally found a shot of the Blue/Black late 30s DB 18 Daimler much seen in rallies in Delhi in the 80s-90s and in the Queenie film in Jaipur in 1986, I remember re-tubing the far too long pushrods some of which were bent, as with so many DB 18s. It is still in Delhi. A not very good screen shot:

Rejoice in the fact that such a car has survived in India albeit in a not so happy condition, until I obtain the owner's permission to post

Also I have pictures of the massive Daimler with Mr. Sanghi (again I don't know if its okay to post pictures here from his collection)

Wish I could take a leaf out of the (Chinese?) book on the art of copyright infringement and invasion of privacy

BTW Awini Manvendra Singh's book has pictures of Seth Hukumchand's gold plated daimler. The last I enquired about the car I was told it had lost a door to thieves!!
Here is an interesting excerpt on Seth Hukumchand's gold plated Daimler
(TIME Magazine, Monday, Oct 26, 1936)

Golden Repairs
"Not a ruling Indian Prince, merely wealthy Sir Hukunchand Sarupchand purchased in 1919 a 45 h.p. British Daimler car with a gold-plated custom body which still suits him exactly: Last week, having been overhauled by the Daimler company which boasted that they had found it unnecessary to take down the sleeve-valve engine, Sir Sarupchand's 17-year-old car emerged from a British plating works which has been doing over its gold surface. On removing the upholstery to renovate the stuffing, enough dead Indian red ants were discovered to make a heaping shovelful. Finally the car was packed for shipment to India with a repair bill of $7,500."

Meanwhile DKG, when do we get to see the Double-Six ???

According to an article from The Autocar of April 1, 1971:
The 1919 Daimler (now at the Toyota Museum)

"This is a 1919 Daimler Sedanca de Ville built for the Maharaja of Surguja. It has a 7.4L , six cylinder engine. The slats are to prevent people seeing in, as required by the rules of purdah".

I do have a Xeroxed copy of the picture, will scan and post soon! It shows a rather distinguished looking gentleman, complete with a bowler hat, attempting to get a discrete peek in!

Thank you for coming up with the goods. I'm sure we'd all love to see the scan.
I hope the Mods will give us some sticky threads or a seperate pre war section soon before these rare images disappear into the depths of the list never to be seen again, swamped by the left handed Fiat Landmaster threads, who rightly deserve a section all of their own so they won't have to keep wading through all these boring Rolls/Mercedes threads.
I think the Mods should be consulted as to how to arrange this without causing them an excessive amount of work bearing in mind we are a small group compared to the majority interest of this excellent website.

I think Karlos should be the right man, given his passion for both pre and post war cars? Perhaps the Mods can give him the option of moving threads into the Pre/Post war sections, reducing the workload effectively? What say Karlos?

I believe the Pratapgarh car spent many years in Pune, not too far from my house. My upholstrywala even has a neat period black and white picture of the car in Pune hanging on his wall. He apparently worked on the car. Must try and get a copy of it.
