The only written note of an XK racing in India that I can find is
3rd feb 1957
Yelahanka Bangalore Mysore State
All India motor races
unidentified driver in an XK120, he came second on handicap and set the fastest lap with a time of 1.52 sec
this was reported in "the Motor" 20/2/1957

Jaguars Racing in India
whilst there is indian involvment in motor sport now there appeared to be little activity of motor racing in India in the 1950's?.
We did come across 2 events in which SS jaguars competed
Calcutta Airport Sprints dec 1954 ER Isaac 1939 SS100
Calcutta Airport Sprints 2/1/1955 ER Isaac 1939 SS100
although these events may turn out to be one and the same event!
Does anyone know of these Calcutta Airport Sprint meetings did they get reported on in local press? and does anyone have any info on Isaac
regards terry
The Jakkur Flying Club is in Yelahanka,Bangalore City, which was previously Mysore State. Till about 1960's there used to be lot of racing activities here.

Karlos, thanks also from me for this. Your efforts are much appreciated. You would be amazed at how long it will take me to thread all you have crammed into this email into what we have already! There will be a long list of unidentified (Indian) XKs in the book, but I am sure that over a period, lots of gaps will be filled and some more coherent histories emerge, as a result of your efforts and those of others.

Attached please find a picture of a 140. This car is not included in the cars mentioned in my write up, it is another one in Indore. This pic was taken when she was in Mumbai in early 1980's somewhere off Raey Road. Hope you like. I expect querries on this pic!

Another 140 surfaces!

thanks for the great photo
whilst the grille looks very much like an XK140 grille it is actually an early XK120 note the 120 bumpers and chrome sidelight pods --- any chance we can get a chassis number?
regards terry

I too noticed the bumpers, but this brochure tells us otherwise.

Those extra twin grilles on the green car remind me of a Bentley mk VI!

XK120 photo

Hi Karlos, Terry is right, the Mumbai / now Indore car is a 120. Well done to produce that brochure - but the car pictured there, although the caption refers to a 140, is actually a 120 too! The car in the photograph in Mumbai looks like an XK120 with an XK140 bonnet (hood if you are American) as the grille is obviously 140. The vents in the front are like a Mk II I think, certainly not original XK anyway. Regards, John Elmgreen

Both are alive and well. Check the Rolls thread for that reference.

Harit believes this 120 is the same MFA regd car which had travelled abroad and returned later, hence the new number.

Splendid pictures. Does he still retain the car? Why don't you start a separate thread and share all the stories he had to tell, with pictures
