Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

Indeed looks like a 1939 Dodge - and quite a special one at that - 7 seater and RHD.

Any special provenance to the car?

A very special provenance, at least for me. A single owner from new, still around and a pleasure to talk to. The car took both his daughters to their marriage venues and still brings a wistful smile on his face whenever he comes by to see it.

He gave me the car one day , someone told him that I would restore and look after it, I was humbled by the gift and remember the day as if it was yesterday

Thanks a lot, Rosso Corsa, 67 Bug & Karlosdeville. And Bulldogji, that car sure looks like it has found the right home!

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

The car though has been identified as a 1935-36 Peugeot, probably 302 as seen below

What has stumped us is the engine. If you check googlebaba you will read that the 202, 302 and 402 had 4 cyl. engines.

The engine in this picture appears to be original, but is a 2 cylinder boxer type engine

Can anyone identify the actual model??

Cheers

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

The engine in the peugeot is a Jowett Bradford ,two cylinder. My Dad had one about 40 years ago and although the engine is only 2 cylinder they were a fine hard working engine which never gave any problems . I suspect it was punching way above it's weight in that big peugeot though.

A Triumph Spitfire.

Note the bonnet release lever. It reads- *M*. The *M* stood for Giovanni Michellotti, the man behind the Stag and the Herald ().

Cheers!

The fluted grille is a dead giveaway for a Daimler.

Possibly this car? Just a guess.

You might just be correct. I thought it was some Chrysler. A friend clicked the pic at "21 Gun Salute" restaurant recently at Gurgaon.

Re: Unidentified Vintage and Classic cars in India

Regarding the car posted by Karlosdeville #571 on 29/05/14, this is indeed an interesting vehicle from an American enthusiasts point of view.

There is no doubt that it has the Dodge "Ram" hood ornament and Dodge badging on the side of the motor hood.

However, the front wings are definitely of the 1939 Plymouth design, quite different from other Chrysler products of that year.

Another example, I think, of "badge engineering" practiced by a lot of US makers in the 1930's up through the 1960's on export markets.

Sorry for the tardy reply, I have been a bit busy of late.

I would appreciate any comments pro or con on my identification idea.
