By the way the current owner is a close friend of ours. He would be interested to know the history of the car. Or may be he already knows this .

Waiting for him to revert back but he is not longer active here.

Actor Dharmendra with a Willys CJ 3B. The petrol tank lid in body colour was OE during the older Willys times. They changed over to black with brand Jeep making its entry around mid 1968. Lockable lids were aftermarket for both Willys/Jeeps and Ambassadors.

Yes, you are right ! The car is with me now. It has changed a couple of hands and come to me . Incidentally , it belonged to my cousin whose father had brought it down from the UK in 1960. It's a 1959 model export RHD Beetle.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

As a tribute to the great music composer Naushad, whose 16th death anniversary falls today (25.12.1919 - 05.05.2006), reminiscing his memories with this song by Mohammed Rafi and singing star Suraiya. On screen Raj Kapoor and Suraiya are shown with the former lip syncing for Mohammed Rafi, while Suraiya is the heroine and singer. The song is from Dastaan (1950).

The car could be a DeSoto Custom of the early 1940's, though it looks sparkling new. But as the car and its front grille is are not fully visible, the identification is open to comments. At the end of the song, the car reappears with its windscreen, part of the bonnet and the bonnet mascot blurred though visible.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Here's a song by Lata Mangeshkar and chorus from the film Prince (1969). Music is by Shankar Jaikishan. Seen on the screen are Vijayantimala, Shammi Kapoor, Rajendranath with the extras. The scenic beauty of Gulmarg is in the backdrop. The car is a Ford Model A of which precious little is shown in the beginning, but the car dominates during later parts of the song. The car's registration number looks like JPA 486.

It is indeed a DeSoto fluid drive of 1946/48, posted earlier in the thread along with some other beautiful cars from the same film, linked below.

Bagh Bondi Khela , 1975 (Bengali)

A 1940 Buick convertible. I am not sure if that is an original or coachbuilt convertible.

A "topless" Standard Herald Mark II from the 1969 Malayalam movie "Ballaatha Pahayan". The car appears only in this song sequence "Snehathil vidarunna poovethu poovu ....". The song is available in YouTube,

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Mr. Qartoon M.A. (1958)
Unfortunately a poor print - any better options?

An MG roadster is seen, the same car also seen in 'Dhool ka Phool', 'Parvarish' and 'Half Ticket'.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Here is a song from Baharen Phir Bhi Aayegi (1966)sung by Mohammed Rafi and Asha Bhonsle. It's lip synced by Johnny Walker and Mumtaz Begum(?). Music is by O. P. Nayyar. The shooting is in Kolkata. A few Ambassadors (new Mark II's) and its older model (one) are seen. A then brand new tram is also seen. The song is "suno suno Miss Chatterjee."

The YouTube link needs to be activated for viewing.
