Other cars seen from the same movie are a Morris Minor tourer (with Amby headlights I suspect), a 4-door (mk3) Herald (just glimpsed briefly) and a Dukkar fiat taxi! Plus Lambrettas galore!
Enjoy!

It's been a while since the quoted post was made but I think I have more information on the Padmini mentioned here.

One of my Dad's friends bought the Padmini with the same registration number TMW6767, from the actress Sowcar Janaki, who was made to act as his Mother by Rajnikant in that movie. She is seen in the third picture.

The car was however painted dark blue and had the typical Padmini upholstery and was very well maintained. This was sometime during the early 90's.

AFAIK, Rajni himself had and still has a Padmini with two toned paint scheme.

I guess either the number plate was swapped for the movie or the car was really repainted.

My Dad's friend still had the car some 9-10 years back when I last met him.

Found this car in a Malayalam movie. Liked the colour, though no idea about the model.

WIth thanks and regards

Looks like a modified Morris Minor. IMHO, the windshield looks stuck on and definitely doesn't belong to that car.

A Tamil short-film showing a Padmini. It shows the love and passion of an old man on his old car.

Yes its a low-light minor. The windshield is indeed not original, nor is the soft-top, appears to be a chopped saloon. Even the headlights dont seem correct.

The same car (?) from the same movie with a different registration. This registration (KLT 60) is still valid in the MVD website.
Also another car, from the same movie.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A couple of nice cars I saw in an early 60s Tamil movie, an early Herald in duotone colours, note the bonnet handle and grey steering wheel.

And a Fiat 1100 select with a Nellore (AP) regn.

This is from Shaan (1980) where Amitabh (Vijay) and Shashi Kapoor (Ravi) were at the roadside when they saw this car and talked about it. Must have been the only one or two of its kind in India then.

Yes, I remember and still know of three cars and all of them were in Maharashtra. One is still all banged up and not a Targa while two are still in decent shape and Targa's

The link said the cars were used for a movie called 'West is West', a sequel to the Om Puri starrer 'East is East'
I saw the movie in parts and could see some cars. The white landy is also seen in one picture.

Both the taxi's the morris and landmaster bear Lahore registration. First picture is of a very nice Herald

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Hi champion clicker,
Re the targa top Porsche, from what I have read elsewhere on the forum,it is the car from the State Trading Corpn.in Mumbai(what is today the Porsche Mumbai showroom),late seventies loaned/hired for the AB movie( mentioned on the forum again as seen with STC tag hanging from rvmirror).
Later maybe?? the same car was with the liquor baron as you mention, had a major crash and is seen in fairly recent pics on the forum again, partially dismantled and awaiting spares/parts ,maybe on the road again, not sure.
Keep smiling and clicking.
