Could also be a Chevy Caprice...a popular cop car in the US throughout the 80s.

Essentially the same car.

It would also be appropriate if we can start a new thread with all the information and pictures about star cars of yesteryears.
I am going OFF TOPIC but can also state in reply to Gogibhai's post that after the post Impala flood of Mercs (even Meena Kumari owned a fintail Merc)in the industry, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand switched over unbelievably to a white Ambassador Mark 4 (registration no.MAM 344) and a Premier Padmini respectively. Raj Kapoor was silent on the issue, but said that he had switched over to the Amby as cars were according to him no longer a status symbol in the industry, as even starlets were buying Mercs. Dev Anand used to do most of the driving himself and would say that he can go off in a crowd as a commoner in his Premier whereas any upmarket car may have swarms of fans mobbing him. While contesting the Allahabad elections in 1984, Amitabh Bachchan brought an Ambassador keeping his all other cars away. When journalists asked "why an Ambassador Amitabhji?" he simply replied "Ambassador is a good car."Who knew that the megastar will quit politics soon and have a fleet of Mercs, a Bentley and a Rolls Phantom in his garage 25 years later!
SIR,

IT would be very interesting to know about the car owned by stars/Legends
of yesteryears as they might have great classic cars. If old times especically
from Bombay can contribute on this issue it will be great. As they say it was
Golden era of Bollywood from 1950 to 1980 it was also a golden era for
cars.

This was spotted in another Hindi movie also . With dharmendra and sunny deol. It's I think in the north and regularly seen. Could be owned by the family that gives their plot for shooting etc

Cheers

Among the yesteryear stars, Motilal (highly paid character actor/ villian) was a person with a lot of car sense. He had the flashiest American cars. In Anari he can be seen on a white Cadillac El Dorado convertible. In a film Paigham, from the early 1950's (B & W) Motilal plays father of heroine Vijayanthimala and the heroine and Motilal are seen moving in the then flashiest of cars including a white Packard, a Buick Super Eight, a Dodge Kingsway (older model without the fins) and also other cars.
It is said that he used to frequent horse races and lost heavily. The cars had to be sold off then.
Character actor and yesteryear's hero Bhagwan dada also owned a whole fleet of luxury cars. His home production film "Albela" (1952 or so) was not very successful. After becoming a producer, he lost all his wealth as the films bombed.Apart from his cars his house was sold and he shifted to a chawl. He appeared in lesser roles till his last days.
Music director O.P. Nayyar owned a Cadillac- cannot say which model.
Yesteryear's hero and character actor Ashok Kumar owned a Riley in the 1950's.
Lata Mangeshkar's first car was a 1952 Chevrolet Deluxe.
Comedian, Producer, Director and singer Mehmood also had a lot of car sense. He owned a red Chevrolet Corvette apart from a whole fleet of other flashy ones..

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A treat especially for our FIATful friends! From a late 70s movie 'Do ladke dono khadke' *ing Amol Palekar.

The station wagon looks like a SAB(?) built President- can anyone confirm. IIRC someone had posted pics. of a similar Fiat owned by their family, in another thread, a brown car.

The green Fiat in the first 2 pics. with the President grille has delight bumpers!

And check out what seem to be venetian blinds in the rear window of the MRH Superselect!

Sir,

Is that Chevy used in Jewel Thief still alive? If so great I was always wondering if this particular car will still around if so what state it would be
in. This car featured in one of the great hit song of Kishore Kumar with
stylish Dev Anand and beatiful Tanuja driving the car. I never miss this
songs when on T.V just to watch this car.

Oh yes, sorry forgot to mention the BMW, although I reckoned it would be easily spotted!

Was this a '60s Michelotti designed 700?

Sir, that Chevy is very much alive (undergoing a 'rebirth' at present! ) and was acquired by none other than the person whom you asked!
Pics. of it as found (in Gujarat IIRC) were posted in another thread here before.

Indeed, these BMW's are such a delight to see now, as much as they were back then. And yes, movies do that too for sure. Coming back to the Beemer, there used to be a 1969 model 2000 in Delhi that belonged to this series, with the first owner till the early 90s. Went to the dogs with the second owner, although some rot had already set in by the time he got her. Getting her restored at a local 'mistri' accelerated the decline and I last saw her with the tin worms all over and the back lifted up, out of line, like the Fiats and opposite to the sagging of the Mercs.

There was another one of this era spotted in Goa in recent times, posted in one of the threads.

Btw, Amol, from a designer's point of view, did you notice the Hoffmeister kink on this one in the movie pics? I believe BMW introduced it with this model - and is still in vogue today.

It's either a 1500 or a 1800, or an even rarer 4-door 1600. Launched in the early 60s.

Oh, and there's that lovely green Beetle also in one of the pics. Nice!

I wonder if that is MRJ 86 - it was seen in a few movies, belonging to Sippy at some point. Also Ram Jethmalani! Currently in Pune, and orange.

Also saw this Vanguard phase 2 taxi and 2 different models of the Standard 20 van (the green one is an early version with the 'closed' wheelarches) as well as a Dodge van in an ealry 80s Malayalam movie, which appears to have been shot in Ooty:
