'found this scene from a '70s movie "Mr. Romeo"! (never seen/heard of it before!) where Shashi Kapoor drives a Fiat 1100D choptop. Looks like an imported one with the chromadora front grille. Got a cool steering wheel too. Meets a sad end though!
It does seem to be an import going by the grille and bumbers. Registerd WBJ 21, we assume it was scrapped shortly after. There is also a 47 Dodge seen, BMY 4506.

Stanher, Me saw the first 30 minutes of the film. Will see more soon, but am worried about the picture quality.
Meanwhile, a picture of Bombay V.T. from 1962 on FB.This is from a movie. An Amby Mark I (1962) tailfin is visible at the left hand lower corner.

Anjan
Hi.
Here are 2 more old songs which have quite a few old cars, trams and abundant road space. The first is picturised in Bombay and the second in Calcutta.

I wasn't too sure whether I should have posted this in the Calcutta trams, the last bastion, thread.

The second song's from Howrah Bridge (1958)

One more from the same movie with what looks like a Hillman Minx taxi and a Chevy truck:

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

'happened to find this movie on youtube: Chandan Ka Palna (1967) with a number of classics seen in it! The read roadster driven by Dharmendra appears to be a Jaguar XK 120/140.

A clipping from the movie with the Jag (and the Herald!) in it:

That's a XK 120, Shyam, identifiable by the slimmer bumper and no over-riders, unlike the fatter bumpers of the 140 with over-riders. I remember a red XK from a Feroz Khan movie as well, the one in which Tanuja (unless I'm mistaken about the actor) is a ghost, and a grand piano plays an important role too - maybe 'Raaz?' Wonder if it's the same car.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Possibly the same car featured in 'Waqt', with Rajkumar briefly driving it. Same colour, and it sported a very stylish chrome spare wheel cover mounted on the rear.

Nice find!

'happened to find these lovely cars (LOTS of pics.!!) from the movie Sangam (1964)...watched it mainly to find the red Herald mk1 in it!

Some scenes are shot in the UK/Europe.

Any idea what the red roadster is driven by Raj Kapoor? 'guessing its a Rootes product viz. Sunbeam or Rover?

Also the red/white Van? Ford thames?

And the white/black car?

Hi
AFAIR Raaz was Rajesh Khanna's first or second movie.
It had Babita (Kareena's mother) as the heroine.
Tanuja playing a ghost would be another movie.

I have no clue who the "Stars" are........ click for a larger version.

The Vanguard picture seems to be from the Coimbatore area (on the way to an Ooty vacation / shoot ?)

On closer inspection on a larger monitor, the registration seems to be BMC 8479. Ring a bell?

That's a lovely shot, thanks for sharing.

There was/is a similar (if not the same) Corvair in Pune for years, I saw it progressively falling apart, to the point where its impossible to save (assuming it isn't already scrapped).

When I first saw it, around 10 years back

When I saw it in 2009, abandoned on the street

When I saw it 2 months later, damaged after rubble was probably dropped on it from the neighbouring construction site. Both cars were covered in concrete. The Ford was still somewhat salvageable, but I doubt anyone could care.

Much of the movie is shot in Pune, and the red roadster looks to be a Sunbeam Talbot, registration maybe 6045, maybe MSP, not clear. The car drives up to the iconic Dorabjee Store on Moledina road, still existing in the same place, though in a redeveloped building.

Greetings faustus77!

You are right, Raaz is quite another film, my mistake! I wasn't certain even while writing the original post. So, I did a bit of sleuthing now - asked friends who are clued in on such matters better than me. And the answer is: 'Ek Paheli'

The red Jag XK in that appears many times, and memory tells me it was with standard high-profile (80) black walls.

Regards,

P

Spot on. You Tube zindabad, though its a rather poor print.

The car appears at least a dozen times, in many shots very clearly focused, though with this print I couldn't read the registration.

In most scenes it has the black wall tyres you speak of, along with wheel spats. Though in 2 or 3 scenes the car gets white walls and no rear spats, like the car we just discussed. Could it be the same or 2 cars? Most of the movie is shot in Goa.

For an interior scene they use a red oval window era convertible Beetle of all things! Could be the same car in Bombay today.
