Does look like a Chevy, as you pointed out before. Most probably a 38/39 Chevy Master.

You can always ask the Big B on his blog. He may actually enjoy the question, given the car buff he is.

Edit:

The Matador, btw, was favoured by quite a few amongst the public figures in the late 70s early 80s. The original starter of Maruti, amongst them. Drove it like a hurricane!

Was watching another classic Amitabh starrer yesterday - Khuddar.

Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars-khuddaar3.jpg

He plays a hard working taxi driver, the taxi in question is a Fiat Super Select, pretty much the norm for the time.

The movie even features a song sequence with the car flying about town - literally.

Yesterday I saw part of the Rajesh Khanna Sabana Azmi starrer 'Avtaar'. Rajesh Khanna plays Avtaar Kishen, who starts of as a mechanic, designs a new efficient carburettor, and makes it big. (Some great factory assembly line shots visible).

In a garage scene, a sad looking white 48(ish) Packard 2 door cabrio is visible. It is very likely to have been this same car.

Also visible is an early 70s dark green Volvo LHD sedan MRJ 1265.

My Packard has not featured in any movie, to the best of my knowledge.
If that Packard in the movie you saw is right hand drive, then it is still alive, but it was a moviewallah's car and handled accordingly.

The Packard brought back nostalgic memories of the film Avtaar. The Volvo was shown moving around in the movie.

Was it the car driven by Shabana in one scene in the song "Din mahine saal" in said movie?

Saw this song playing today. Its lovely with Mumbai of the 1970's. Many Ambassadors Mark II, a Hindusthan 14 taxi, a Plymouth Savoy,a repainted Austin 10,a Lambretta and Fiat 1100D and Super Select taxis are sighted on Mumbai streets. The melodious composition is Rimjhim Gire Sawan from the film Manzil, a beautiful monsoon song picturised on Moushumi Chatterjee and Amitabh Bachchan. The music is by R D Burman.

How sir, did you miss out the 2 Heralds also seen in the same song??!! Grrrrrrr!!!
You can find a nice black mk1 with white-walls and a Black Hillman Minx passing by each other in a split second, then a red later model (mk2) with flat bootlid, whizzing past the couple in the opposite direction with it's boot stuffed with luggage and thus the bootlid half-open.....

But yes, really lovely song. 'wish I had existed back then!
