Amol, a yellow P5 was driven by the BIG B in one of his movies, mercilessly banged about while he's trying to make his escape from the cops who've landed up on the beach where his smuggling activities are on. Not sure now which flick this was - Don or Deewar, or another one of his gangster-with-a-golden-heart types! The Rover's treatment+fate is still heart-breaking though!!

Taken, probably from Sunday Midday

Nice find. Wonder if anyone has a print of the movie today. The car is definitely an Adler Trumpf Junior sport. We have one in Bombay, wonder if it was the same. Another one (with fuller mudguards) is pictured in Gautam Sen's book, registered BMX 1117 with Protap Roy.

Prabal, silly question, but you are positive about the setting? 'Don' has a smuggling scene on the beach where cops turn up to spoil the party and Big B does use a yellow(ish) getaway car, but its a 1951/2 (?) Buick saloon, bruised and battered, before and after being chased.

Nope, not a silly question at all; maybe very pertinent in fact. As I mentioned, I'm not sure which movie it was, but whichever it was that I don't remember the scene from, the car at least was certainly a Rover P5. And the car's colour was very yellow too! I hope somebody can pin it down to the right movie - I don't want to be blaming the wrong crew for battering up one of my beloved P5s!

I think these were posted earlier too. The Bentley is a WO, very original, now in Jaipur (earlier in Coonoor I think).

The other tourer (besides the green Model A Ford) I think is the CAT registered Buick with 'royal' style plates discussed earlier, now in Hyderabad.

The maroon saloon appears to be a large Austin, possibly a 12/4 (?)

This is a Studebaker owned by the Kunchako family and used to be at the Udhaya Studios in Alleppey. Not too sure about it's existence now. I have had the opportunity of traveling in it many times during 1983~84.

That's cool suren! You sure were blessed in your younger days!

Do you recall if it had the original engine? It seems to have a strange high stance at the front, in the pics.

The car is still in Cochin. I had the fortune of sitting in it. Its still fully original. But in a very sad state. Its still restorable, but neglected, and deteriorating.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Just now on the channel B+W the movie Ragini is going on with Kishore Kumar. In it there is a white convertible Austin Antlantic. Also a 1947 Dodge Baloon car, maybe BMY 1994.

Cheers harit

Stanher, here is the youtube link of the movie. The print is pretty bad, I took the screenshots from a VCD copy. Even that was terribly bad :(
Watch from 7:50 for the car.

With thanks and regards
