Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A splendid song by Mukesh (he won the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song) from Rajnigandha (1974) starring Amol Palekar, Vidya Sinha and Dinesh Thakur. Music is by Salil Chowdhury (who else could compose such a melodious song?).

The shooting is through the Bombay streets of 1974. To start with, a black Hindustan 10 is seen. Many more cars are seen later. Intrestingly, Vidya Sinha and Dinesh Thakur board and are moving in a Fiat 1100 D taxi. Soon, for some seconds they are shown moving in an Ambassador (taxi?).

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Various vehicles seen in the movie "Baharon Ki Manzil" which I presume came out in the late 60s, or around 1970, as it has Meena Kumari (who is said to have died in 1972) starring in it.

The Shell Truck is particularly interesting- first time I've seen an Indian truck with the original doors intact!

And yet another Bollywood movie with a classic American car being destroyed in the end- in this cae a '46-47 Hudson!

The Heckflosse! And the Ponton!

Note the Morris taxies. This was before the Fiats seemed to be everywhere.

And the Ambys! Note the semaphore on that mk1 btw.
The Morris taxi could as well've been a Baby Hindusthan 1000.

Another thing- The commercial Taxies are running the modern style of number plates, that is black on a white background. And the Privateers are having the exact opposite, that is white on black.

Was this err...normal? The format of the commercial plates, that is?

Lastly, imagine that the driver is driving an Amby. And lo! What does he see through the rear windscreen? A Plymouth trying to overtake the W111, right behind him.

What a scene it would have been! The picture number 8 is a testimony to this!

Yes, before the current Black on Yellow plates (since 2002 IIRC), commercials had Black on White, whereas private vehicles had white on black plates.

Yes, the 1940's Hudson Commodore WBD 5590 is sadly destroyed. Must have been scrapped as there were no questions of its revival in 1968 or so, when this movie was made.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Pradeep Kumar, the hero of yesteryears is best remembered for his roles in many hit films in the 1950's and later in Aarti (1962), Taj Mahal (1963), Bheegi Raat (1965) and Bahu Begum (1966) . He passed away on 27/10/2001 at age 76.

Pradeep Kumar is seen here with a Plymouth:

Seems to be a Desoto, though technically its a rebadged Plymouth for the 'export' market!

And here are a few pics. from the movie "Mere Mehboob" (1963)

Cadillac seems to be a '52 Fleetwood. Couldn't identify the other (blue) car though- possibly a '51 Lincoln sport sedan. But the headlights are inconsistent when compared to this online pic.:

Or were the ones on the movie car modified (better looking than the originals- IMHO!)

Your Lincoln guess is close - possibly a 1950-51 Mercury.

The unique swage line on the front fender / door and rear suicide doors are characteristic.

Looks like the badging /trim may have been slightly different for "export" ?

From a 1981 Tamil movie: Ellam Inba Mayyam *ing Kamal Haasan.

Couldn't identify the other car properly- tried to check if twas a Chevy Nova (plenty used in old movies from what I've seen) but doesn't look so.

Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Was watching this old movie recoloured obviously called " Aan " anyone knows where this state is on the Cadillac. The car is a 1947 Series 62 and a wonderful example and shade and so appealing it looks.

The state number runs - 14 and the territory reads like - TIMBA or TAMBA
Anyone has a clue of the car and the state

Cheers Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars-imageuploadedbyteambhp1416147808.096505.jpg
