Since it is a movie, perhaps it is a fake plate

Hi
The number plate struck a chord and so googled for "Tamba"
It is a name of a place in Bijapur Taluka Karnatake state.
Maybe there was a raja there who would have his own number plates.
I have seen Faridkot on a car. Do remember this was much before the privy purses were abolished.
Feeling sleepy to dig deeper so I may be wrong.

The all knowing web says "Aan" was produced in 1952; and was the first Indian Technicolor movie. So the Cadillac could be the right colour!

About the green Cadillac - This scene from Aan shows film star Nimmi beside the car. Some time back while discussing Classic cars of Bombay film gentry, I had related the story of this very car. The green Caddy was owned by Miss Nimmi and for some reason the car ended up in Meerut with a film financier/destributor. This was in mid/late 50s. This gentleman belonged to perhaps the wealthiest family in Meerut and had many businesses in Meerut , Delhi and Bombay. This car was in Meerut and I have seen it taken care of along with many fine cars the family owned. My brother was in the Auto insurance business and showed me the papers showing ownership of the car - Miss Nawab Begum. The car is a 1947 model and may have belonged to some princely state or wealthy owner prior to ownership of Miss Nimmi . This story throws some light on the background of this magnificent car. In Meerut, next to our home was a auto workshop that took care of this family's cars. I was about 14 years old, and very interested in cars. I saw this Caddy at close quarters - it was of course LHD , .a Flathead V8 , two speed automatic, and a working AM radio.

Hi.
You are right. This was the first one. The negatives were sent to London for processing.
AFAIR this was the first movie released at the newly opened Liberty theater and I saw it there. My first movie in an AC hall and push back chairs. Very well remember the plush red carpet where my feet sank upto the ankle level

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Seen in a 1978 Kannada movie "Premayana":

The last scenes with the cars on the bumpy tracks are at a Drive-in theatre(!) that existed in Bangalore.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Scenes frrom the Hindi film Andaz (1971) featuring Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini on the black Royal Enfield Bullet. The song is "zindage ek safar hain suhana, yaha kal kya ho kisne jaana." Sadly, when the song reached the peak position in the Binaca Geetmala popularity charts, its music director Mr Jaikishan Panchal of the then very famous duo Shankar Jaikishan, passed away (12/09/1971).

The street scenes bring back the nostalgia of the era.

From the Hindi feature film Raja Rani (1973). The hero Rajesh Khanna can be seen with Ramesh Rao (constable) and there's a Fiat (could be a new President too, as the bumpers are post 1972) with its original shade.

From the Hindi feature film Mahachor. The hero Rajesh Khanna can be seen dressed like MGR and there's a President/ early Padmini (most likely President as the round front fender indicators show) taxi alongside.

Not a Rover, but a Sunbeam Talbot.

Meanwhile, here are some pics. from a Bollywood movie: Tanhaai, c.1973. This movie surprisingly features a 4-door Herald driven by a villain character, albeit briefly:

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Now for something different, as in not a Bollywood movie but a Kannada one- Thayige Thakka maga, 1978. Starring the popular Dr. Rajkumar.
But, the later half of it is shot in Bombay, hence the cars with the Bombay plates.
The Herald mk2 is made to look like a Vitesse!

The Fiat 124 driven by Rajkumar would become a common car on our roads a decade later, albeit with a different name!

Couldn't identify the white car MMF 3438 though- front grille looks Russian-ish and the badge, though not legible, seems to be of 5 letters. Could it be a Volga?

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

This is the last scene from the movie Aashiqui (1990)

In this action scene, the lead actor is racing to the airport to stop his girlfriend from boarding a flight (So typically Bollywood ) And which car do they choose? The good ol' 1966 Ford Mustang obviously! From the pictures, it seems that the car's top has been chopped off to make it look "cooler". He also bangs it on a divider and a water pump (Ouch!) only to abandon it later due to traffic

The director must be loving Ambys as this scene has lots of them as props. They even steal one and make it go down a flight of stairs!

What is interesting is that, the number of the Mustang used in the film (MRF 6037) is an original number. This car is the same one that was found in a horrible state at the Film City in Mumbai and Mr. Suraj Bhalla of Team Motor Works "restored" it. The second last image is a picture of the car about 10 years back and the last image shows its present avatar! Present avatar is an eyesore, I feel. The owner could have done so much better with the car!

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

From an 80s movie "Jaan Ki Baazi"

Pity about the Ford Falcon and the Dodge Kingsway though, especially the latter, which seemed relatively in good shape!
One of the many yank car destruction by Bollywood.
