That's a 46 Buick with the one year only grille.

If one checks further on in the this song sequence, a real rarity is seen - well, a little bit is seen for a split second, but that is definitely a bright blue Fiat Multipla!

Which leads me to believe that Multiplas must have been common in Mumbai during that period. A multipla can also be seen in the famous song sequence from the movie " Dosti". It is visible as the friends move around singing in the 5 garden area. Pity that there are no survivors to speak off!

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

In the 1969 (?) Dharamendra starrer 'Yakeen' we see him driving around in many scenes in an early MG.

The car probably survives in Rajasthan, where it has been identified as a 1938 PB, making it pretty rare.

Thanks to Stanher for directing me to the movie.

Some more of the same Stanher!

Incidentally, this is an early car, going by the bonnet handle! All the more interesting to note that twas a Hyderabadi car! Assuming the numberplate's not fake!
Hope it survives!
The white painted chrome parts unfortunately give the poor car a 'cartoon car' look!

Another one in duotone colour combo can be seen.

Oh, and also a Lambretta LD from the same movie!

Thanks to Stanher for directing me to the movie.
To complement, here are some more cars and a Dodge bus from the same movie:

Some pics. from the same movie, of what I suspect was another car 'acting' as the car featured in this song!
And of course quite a few other cars as well! The Dodge is yet another Hyderabad regn.! 'wonder if it too survives.
Also the nice series 2 Lambretta, replete with period accessories including the "fried egg" side indicators on the side domes! Unusual to find one in India with these!
But what really caught my attention (in a not-so-positive way) was the front end modification done to this Herald!

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

From the movie "Neend Humari Khwab tumhare" (1966)

Incidentally, I had first seen this movie back in 1997, but not from the beginning. Twas only towards the ending in fact, and had seen only the Fiat 1100D with the strangely mounted rear numberplate!

The Herald driven by Nanda looks nice but another strange aspect of which is the completely missing RH tail lamp!

Really liked the lovely Beetle! And also a Lambretta s2 with all period accessories, which makes me suspect twas a personal import then!

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

From the movie 'Andar Bahar' (1984), which I was watching last night. The roofless Impala seems to be a '68? 'wonder what happened to the bootlid though!

Pity the GTO Judge though! Those were apparently the times when Yank cars in Bollywood were meant to either be driven 'topless' in songs or destroyed in car chases!
