Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Hi all,
Saw this 2 door roadster in the song Pehli Baar Mile Hain from Saajan (1991) and couldn't quite figure out what it was. Looks like a Miata or a Porsche 914 from the front and a Fiat X19 from the rear. Anyone knows what it could be?

Looks like a locally and crudely fabricated product from a Maruti 800 SS 80. Quite a few films of the era had such odd and weird looking fabricated sports cars.

Oh ya, never thought of that. Thanks for the info . Looks pretty good to me considering it was made from an 800. Are there any more details about these kits/who made them? Would love to learn more about it.

Agreed, looks to be locally made. The registration number is also seen on a Fiat Spyder from Maine Pyaar Kiya.

'Raton Ka Raja' (1970)
Thanks to Stanher for the find.

A rare catch - a Nash Metropolitan. I know of 2 surviving, this might be a third. It seems to have a small crest on the door too.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Spotted in a 1992 Malayalam film. The protagonist’s Tata Estate passed by what looks to be a 1950s/60s Standard Pennant Station wagon. Quite a rare sight to see two Indian made Estates in the same frame. Interestingly, the Standard would have been the same age in the Movie as the Tata Estate would be at present:

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

To bump an old thread and a topic close to my heart, trying to revive this discussion.
So coming back to Bollywood and their cars, Sanjeev Kumar aka Haribhai Jariwala had some good cars. From a White Bay window VW Microbus (which almost every actor/actress worth their salt had to have - and which are now replaced by Vanity vans) to an automatic beetle ( he had two one was manual) to a Karman Ghia (also automatic). He also had a whote W115 MHY something a 200 petrol which was his chauffeured run about. SK also had a beautiful W108 which he bought a little later and was very attached to it. Besides that a white Fiat, a President with a/c fitted from starline motors also was his pride .
Pran: was the only other person besides Hema Malini who owned Volvos. Pran had two. Hema had one. The Deol family always loved Macho things and were always partial to SUVs, in particular the Range Rover, which they own a few of even today.

As time moves on preferences change. From the Buick to the Impala to the Mercedes to the Pajero to the Land Cruiser to the Bentley and recently to the Maybach both SUV and Sedan and the Range Rover. Vehicles change with taste.

Chhailla Babu (1977)

A lot of interesting action sequences in this Rajesh Khanna Zeenat Aman starrer.

The movie opens with a robbery scene, where the bank's cash van is an early Standard 20 van with a high roof body.

Bad guys get away in a Jeep FC van - a rare sight today.
Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars-chhailla-23.png

Baddie Ranjit's personal Plymouth Barracuda is seen in one scene - the car survives in Bombay.

A Fiat 1300 / 1500 (does anyone know how to identify?)

A row of American minibusses - once a fixture in all Bollywood movies.

A 1961 Ford Fairlane is featured prominently in many scenes. Starting off in good condition, it is battered through out and ultimately destroyed.

This Ford Zephyr (?) Station wagon meets a similar fate. It was also seen in the movie 'Don'.
Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars-chhailla-59.png

A 1960 Ford Thunderbird 'Squarebird' is seen - a rare sight. Unfortunately also destroyed.

The beach chase scene is a must, where the Zephyr wagon is chasing the Fairlane. A nice MG TC is seen, which gets caught in the crossfire.

A pair of 'half' Citroen Traction Avants are seen - just the front halves are used, and the choice of this model of car is probably the fact that they're front wheel drive and can hence be driven as is. We saw these same cars in the movie 'Five Rifles'
