Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

The W189 is indeed fuel injected. The pump was giving problems, hope they have managed to sort it out. They also have a lovely 190sl, air conditioned and in fairly regular use.Does anyone have any idea of a huge 600 lying in a south bombay workshop since the last couple of years? Deep blue in colour with an MH12 registration? Beautiful beast in dire straits. Hope she gets restored/rescused soon.

Re: Vintage & Classic Mercedes Benz Cars in India

Thanks YardShark for saving the glorious W108 from the clutches of a scrapper. Anyways these guys have become too clever to scrap a car like that. They usually offer it to their contacts.

Isnt this the same car that Pavan said was lying in some Bombay scappers awaiting death?

Whatever, im glad this is saved. Kudos and congratulations on this purchase, they are getting rare.

One deep blue 600 with Rashtrapati Bhavan origins is / was in Dubai getting restored recently .....would this be the same car you are refering to ?

How many 600's are known to be in India

The Dubai car is a 300, Addenauer shape.

I know of two 600s - one was ex Iran consulate (according to what I learned on the forum), silver colour or blue, I forget, and DL registered. The other is MH 12 registered, but black, and ex President of India. In a Poona collection for years.

The Dubai 300 was a President of India car, it was a convertible. There is that picture with Jackie Kennedy.

Bulldogji refers to the Iran Embassy car, maybe re-registered, that car is in Mumbai, came from Delhi via Vashi. Dark blue.

Cheers harit

Thanks, always exciting to see a new car on the forum.

The forum has taught me much - we can assume the car to be an early Ponton from the small taillights. The badge says 180 but it possibly features additional trim from later/larger 220s - am I right?

You are right! early ponton 57 or pre-

with incorrect trim mimicking a 6 cylinder.
incorrect orange turn signal below headlights.
non original headlights though surround is original
incorrect hubcaps
incorrect boot lock(probably premier)

but overall a nice car. Which year is the number?

The Dubai car is also said to be having presidential connections and so is the one we are discussing now ....nHow many 300's were in the services of the POI.

With regards to the 600's you mentioned two so is the car Bulldogji is refering to one of these or is it another one ?
