The sun never sets on the Mighty Jeep. That was their sales slogan. Check out the ad art from 46, there's India on the bottom left.

Re: Jeep Willys

Rather feeling glad to see a pristine looking Willys I feel sad and sorry looking at the magnificent animal getting killed and carried on the jeep with blood around on the bonnet, I feel how stupid it is, just for fun/game and in the name of rich men sport we have put so many creatures to near extinction. Sorry my intention is not to criticize someone here but just trying to reiterate the fact what we did and what we need to do.

A good ad about the sun never setting etc. Nice improvisation on the saying about the Brit Empire!

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

A Willys Station Wagon with a "carry anything" roof-rack, a Kirloskar diesel but the original body. This was clicked by me in 2002 and the present fate of this is not known.

Re: Jeep Willys

Was chatting with my father today about Willy's jeeps and he mentioned that after WW2, the Army was disposing of surplus military Jeeps for Rs. 500 a piece. That was still a hefty amount in the mid 40's but I would take that deal now (adjusted for inflation that comes to Rs. 30000).

Re: Jeep Willys

A 1957 LHD Willys jeep with the original Hurricane petrol engine, recently restored by a friend.
There are still many gap areas and as we all know restoration is a continuous process, that seldom gets punctuated with a full-stop. Hence, restoration of this jeep is still on.

Re: Jeep Willys

Just happened to see this dismantle and rebuild of the Willys Jeep, whatever may be lacking, seems incredible work done under 4 minutes

Re: Jeep Willys

I see the jeep WILLYS (CJ3B) in grey in the below pictures and see the bonnet is incorrect, there should be a embossed line on the bonnet just above the willys name. I guess the owner might have chosen to keep it this way.

Re: Jeep Willys

@ Chanu,
You are right about the bonnet. The original bonnet has a line on it.This bonnet seems to be a repaired one where the line has been erased by denting or it is a locally
made one.

Re: Jeep Willys

You're concerned about a silly welding crease.
  1. And not about the special windshield with electric wipers below the windshield. The Willys CJ-3Bs in India always had an engine vaccuum operated driver's wiper above the windshield and a manual autorickshaw type passenger side wiper again above the windshield.
  2. And not about, the free-wheeling hubs which were never there on the Willys CJ-3B.
  3. And not about, the non-conical parking lights which were never there on the Willys CJ-3B sold in India.
  4. And not about, the trailer which is much different from the one sold in India, made by Rubery-Owen. If you could see the hauling fitting, I am sure it would be the ball and socket, not the WWII pintle-hook that persisted in India for over four decades.
  5. And finally the paint is called "Olive-Drab", not "Grey".
