Yesterday I saw an EICHER CANTER with the number MYN 6007.

Are Eicher vehicles that old in India?

No, perhaps it was an old chassis with a new cab replaced.

Cheers harit

Some interesting details including an early registration book scan (not 1936 as mentioned) can be found at this link (pdf documents).

DUNBAR SLOANE – AUCTIONEERS AND VALUERS

It speaks of a 1936 Lanchester for sale. Originally registered SS NAWANAGAR 3 (what was SS?), then BYC 6217, and finally GJY 4756. It is interesting to note that the car was transferred to a Pune, Maharashtra address, yet retained the GJY registration.

Which rally is that photo taken at? It looks like sajid riding the bike. I think its the same one I spoke about I think it has a hand oil pump for the rocker arms, you have to use regularly. He had it with him but it belongs to a police commisioner who lived at carter road. He also owned a james and a zundapp 2 stroke, I should have lots of photos of that Rudge...thing is I havent a clue where. I will try and locate them

There is a modified BSA bike for sale in Goa on eBay

eBay India: 1950 original BSA 500 cc chopper military style (item 120575850053 end time 27-Jun-2010 16:10:25 IST)

Amongst the images is one of the registration book, and it shows an illustration of a Mk 1 Amby.

Has anyone else ever seen a book like this?

As I am back, new old pictures have started finding their way to me. Now I received a lot covering a Parsi gent, presumably from Mumbai, starting from the late 1920's as a young motocyclist and going on to and aged gent with a 1948 Morris. Interesting is the number plate on one of his bikes, BMV 185. Yes, it is BMV and there are a few pictures of this bike and number. This picture has been taken outside the Gateway of India, when you could take a vehicle right up to the monument.
We have discussed Bombay registrations before, starting with BMW etc, but I have never seen BMV. Perhaps Sabinesnubbing has some info?

Cheers harit

Harit,
I am afraid that BMV doesn't appear on either the pre 1939 list I have or the 1939 list. BMW then BMX were issued from 1939 to 1947 for cars and BMT was for public transport. I don't have any pictures or notes on BMV from any period. Could it be that this was another 1939 series? Or do you think the photo is pre 1939?
Interesting.
Cheers

Hi Cedric,

Attached is another photo of the same no and bike. This seems to be genuine, but no one seems to remeber this series. I would prefer to wait till I get one more picture with this series BMV but with a different number. None of the oldtimers also seem to recall this series. This was certainly after 1940, before that they had single alphabets only. This bike is a Jawa.
BTW, if anyone can identify the gent, please let me know. Seems to be from South Mumbai.

Cheers harit
