PJJ, not PYY seems to be a foreign number plate. These are old pictures.
PUQ should be Punjab.

Cheers harit

Since these pics were shot at last year's rallies in Punjab, I'm guessing PJJ is also a Punjab registration.

Gents,
Sorry for the late reply, I have been travelling again. Just got back to Dubai this morning and will be off again on Friday.

AIB is the final Andhra Pradesh mark before the APnn system started (as far as I know) but I don't know which RTO letter B would have been.
HYE is Haryana 1966-73 on my list but I have no idea of any of the Haryana RTO allocations of letters.
PJJ is Punjab 1973-79 and (as usual) I don't know the letters allocated by RTO.
PUQ is Punjab up until 1973 but I don't know the allocation of the letters or even when PU started.

Not a lot I know but I hope it helps.
Cheers all
Cedric

Welcome back Cedric!
Reg. AP regn. series, the final series in Hyderabad were AIA (used generally for Secunderabad AFAIK), AIB, then AIS (I too dont know which zones RTOs used these), before the AP ** series.

Cedric - any idea where the BMA series were issued? It is obviously part of the erstwhile Bombay Presidency, and BMC, BMF, BML etc are still valid. Never seen BMA, BMB cars recently, only in old photos. I assume they were issued in what is now Gujarat state (Ahmedabad, Surat, Baroda etc).

In a similar fashion, BYH, BYK, BYF etc were and still are vaild for parts of Maharasthra, and BYC, BYB etc were probably issued in Gujarat.

If they were registered at Madras city, they would've been MS*....if in a district then MD*

Previous to MS* Madras had MC 1234 and then
MC 1234
P

The oldest documented number was 'MC 1', circa 1904.

Cedric

I don't think AIB is from Hyderanad or AP as I grew up there and never say any cars with an AI reg.

AIS is from Assam so I feel AIB is also from Assam
