Re: Early registration numbers in India

May be slightly off topic, I was wondering looking at this old registration numbers - how long a registration is valid ? Is there a specific period after which it automatically expires unless re-registered ? I have a very old Priya scooter which was registered about 25 years back and I wonder if this is still valid ?

The registration of a vehicle once done never expires, what is being done after 15 years and then every 5years is basically a fitness test .
Your priya scooters registration is still valid. But you will have to clear the pending tax arrears with fines, get a valid insurance and get a fitness test done at the rto, so that the documents become valid

Could it be the same car, BA 1101 was owned by Lt. Col. William Howell Buckley.

More details on the Bangalore car (Madras registered and in long term ownership) can be seen here

http://standardmotorclub.org.uk/page456.html

Standards were pretty popular pre war, there may have been a fair amount of similar models sold new.

One can go to the concerned RTO office- wherein the car was registered, and pay the fee/bribe to the concerned clerk, or an RTO Agent.

The Kerala MVD, IIRC had a website, wherein the number could be entered, and lo! The list of owners, (and address, maybe?) would come up.

Re: Early registration numbers in India

Where do the MHL & MTL registrations belong?

MTL/608 is a Tata 1210 in Pune. Strangely, I've seen MTL in both, Poona and Nagpur.

And where does MHO belong to? MHO 1166 is a 1210, also in Pune.

MHL, MTL and MHO are commercial series probably Pune or Kolhapur, but I can't say for sure. Commercial vehicles are always moving between cities.

In all probability, Kolhapur. 'Coz, MHK was Kolhapur, so makes sense that the immediate next series was issued there as well.

The reason- MHP was Pune, private. MHQ- was Pune commercial.

Similarly, MTK was Kolhapur, so MTL should be Kolhapur, as well. I've seen MTL in Nagpur as well. Strange.

MTO- Pune Commercial.

MHO is the mystery here. MHP was Pune, MHQ was Pune.

Perhaps, Kolhapur here as well.....?

MHO is more likely to be Pune, prior to MHQ. This is just going by the number of vehicles seen. MHO were older vehicles, MHQ were newer.

So- can you justify TWO commercial series for a place like Pune in the 'Sixties/Early Seventies? Even though the RTO here registered vehicles in the neighbouring districts as well?

Note- The series were for the time period 1962/3 upto 1973, wherein the MT_ series started.

Within a decade, the following series are impossible- MHD, MHO, MHQ, MHF (?), MHL (?). So......

Nope- MHL is certainly Kolhapur.

Many thanks to all of you for confirming some of the MH, MT area and class letters.
For me, MHO makes sense as Pune commercial as MTO is similar.

I have most of the MH letters sorted out but we still need to know where are MHV (commercial) and MHY (private).
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers
Cedric
