Re: Early registration numbers in India

Came across this pic with an interesting number in a U-Tube video
"Story of MSRTC's Central Workshop Dapodi (C.W.D.) | कहाणी एसटीच्या दापोडी कार्यशाळेची"

I have a feeling that this is a representational video and the number BWX 1528 may not be genuine. Looking for comments.

Cheers harit

Re: Early registration numbers in India

Some interesting plates visible here (Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India)

UP 8735 LW &
UP 7928 LW - Lucknow I assume
UP 2564 CE - ?

Note the white plates on multiple cars with the same number (UP 7683 LW?) - probably trade plates for the dealer?

Re: Early registration numbers in India

A lovely shot shared on the Bygone Bangalore facebook group showing a Hillman Minx with the older style plates MY 5335 X. Interestingly the poster says the car was later registered MYB 5335.

I think this is a 3D computer generated image.

CE = perhaps Cawnpore. A District that was part of the Allahabad Division of the United Provinces.

Re: Early registration numbers in India

Now here is a very interesting one.

A dukkar Fiat, from 1954 to 56. The image is shot in Madras, and apparently later the car was registered MSW 966. Now I assume the MSW number was issued around 1961/62.

I have never seen an ADW series so far. For Andhra Pradesh we have seen ADX, ADY, but I haven't seen ADW. Plus the AD series were introduced later into the 1960s I would think? Any ideas from the old timers?

ADW,ADN,ADC were all issued when Hyderabad state was not part of Andhra state, when Hyderabad state became part of Andhra State then it was called Andhra Pradesh.
Then new series APX,APY,APU,ADX,ADY were introduced.Subsequently all cars were reissued with new series.

Very interesting, thanks for the insight. In the past I have seen ADN series on some cars I assumed they were not from India, perhaps Aden.

ADN was issued for cars in Nellore,my great grandfather's 1953 Morris Minor when bought new was registered with a Madras number, then after Andhra state was formed it was registered as ADN 325 and later my great grandfather got transferred to Vijayawada from Nellore and when he was in Nellore ,Andhra state became Andhra Pradesh and then our car's number changed to APK 3331.

Thanks for the insight. Incidentally APK 3331 is still around, I had seen an ad for it a while back for sale. White colour.

Yes you are right about APK 3331,i have personally visited the car when it was advertised in Hyderabad, the car engine is changed to Sidevalve, it needed a lot of work and the price expected was high according to me,someone from Aurangabad had bought it then he was expecting the same,Now I believe the car is in Goa.For my family APK 3331 is a sentimental car,my passion for Morris Minors is all because of this particular car,Iam hoping that someday this car will come to our house.
