In March 1945 this tender was published in the papers calling for suppliers of number plates - looking at the sheer variety of fiints, sizes and shapes of the plates I am surprised to learn that at one point the plates themselves were issued by the administration. Any insight from seniors?

Just came across this thread. HYE is Ambala. Our family owned HYE 50. I learnt my driving on a 3 gear Left hand drive Jeep and later used to drive HYE 50. I think I also know the owner of HYE 12 and most likely I sat in it.

I learnt that new Vintage series RC numbers have started to get issued. for instance a vintage car no 1234 in state of Karnataka would be KA VA-AA 1234

I came across a RC of Bhopal having MP-VA-AB-xxxx

Though i should say there was a charm in the old numbers like HYE 50 (our family car a few decades ago), I had a Hero Honda with the number HNM 130 and the motorbike of my elder brother was HYT 9000.
