This number series is Ambala (HR). I smiled when I saw this picture. I know the family that used to own it (been many years since I saw them). I have also sat in this car (big deal back in the day to sit in a Merc). The owner was a senior to my father in the Govt. I think the model is the same which Firoz Khan had in the movie Qurbani (which he destroyed in the movie).

Our family had HYE 50 (Premier Padmini), HYT 9000 (royal enfield), HYT 8006 Suzuki Maruti 800 and my motorbike was HNM 130.

HYE - Ambala
HNM - Mahendergarh
HYT - Hisar

My list has DA, DB and DD as being issued from 79 onwards. I have pictures of various DB and DD series but why only DAQ?
Was it a special series for something? Does anyone remember any other DA series?
The three photos I have are a 1930s car (0391) so obviously a reregistsed one, a close up of a rear plate (1154) on what might be an Amby, and a pair from a collection (2543). These don't give me much in the way of clues to go on.
All help gratefully appreciated.
Cheers

Cedric

My neighbour has a bajaj super similar to mine. Mine is a1984 vizag registered - ADH 9429. He has a Delhi scooter from the same period, its a DAD

Re: Early registration numbers in India

I saw a Jaguar F-Pace with RPZ (old Ajmer code) plates yesterday near Jaipur. Never knew it was possible in India to carry over an old registration number that we own to a new vehicle.

Re: Early registration numbers in India

Saw a Maruti SS80DX with a ‘MFF 2407‘ reg number. Does anyone have an idea of which year it would be registered?

MF was for Bombay from what I read on this thread.
