By the way there are many more such classic air cooled VW's in Kerala well hidden and out of reach of the real dealer wheelers

Re: Classics of Travancore, Cochin and Malabar

One of the most original sixties Morris Oxfords in Kerala was imported to Trivandrum from South East Asia in the seventies, done low mileage, even the heating system used to work perfectly.

The pic.s of the Pennant were posted by jayD a few years earlier. 'twas lying in some garage then (what about now? Any idea?)

The owner was said to have been so attached to the car that he wanted to take it to his grave with him!

Me thinks this is a Singer. Please check. There are about 5 to 6 of this model in India. Its actually a Singer Roadster, and its of around 1949, built for maybe 2 to 3 years.

Cheers harit

Diwan C P Ramaswamy iyer in the maiden run of the state service bus.

The first trip was on 1938 Feb 20 th when the bus rolled from Thampanoor to Kowdiar.

E.G. Salter(former London Passenger Transport Board employee) drove the bus on that eve. Passangers were H.H. Sree Chitra Tirunal Balaramavarma and family.

33 buses were there in the convoy of the maiden trip.

Approximately 60 buses were imported from London.

Buses already started running from 1913, they were big nosed and not covered coaches.

C P introduced the idea of running state buses in 1937 July at meeting of Sree Moolam Praja Sabha and assembly. Later it was materialised on 1938 Feb 20 th.

The girls school inside the Fort( koottaykakom) was the first H. Q.

The side bodied buses were introduced in this period. It is also said that the side body is introduced to prevent the freedom fighters running off from buses after their arrest.

The bus body shop supervised by Salter was at Chakai which was later moved to Pappanamcode.

Local wood was used to build the body, else the bus will not get permit at that times. This rule was introduced by Sir C.P.

Fare stage :- 8 Kash/ mile . Minimum rate was 1 Chakram.

Out of 81 people applied for job in state transport 60 lucky people got job and they were selected by Salter.

2 inspectors and rest all were conductors. Conductors had Kakhi dress and white topi while the inspectors had Kakhi dress and Kakhi hat.

Conductors had Ticket MACHINES at that time. The machine had a button , when pressed the ticket will come out with a ring of bell in the machine.

Comer and Perkins buses were first but the Dodge, Fargo, Bedford and Chevy followed later and now it's leyland, tata and Volvo

Imagine starting up whole Public Transport Service just in about 9 months.

Whatever said and done the CP's regime did lay a strong foundation on which modern Kerala was built and managed to stay ahead until recently. The headstart now neing squandered by all of us belonging to all colors of flags, caste, religion etc

I wish we could go back to the good old days

Enough of rants

Best Regards & Drive/Ride Safe

What do you mean by blue printed? I presume a V8 engine has gone in, anything more? Please put up some more pictures in natural surroundings, front, side and rear views.

Thanks & Cheers harit
