Back in 2010 I found a picture of what may be the same 57 Chevy taken decades back in Kerala. I found the picture in my grandparent's house, and I don't know how they got it since I don't think any one from the family had ever even been there!

Here are some pics of the Chevy in its current state. Quite a sad sight after seeing the old pic of the car.

It's a 1957 210 sedan and it's been in long term ownership for almost 25+ years now, currently a non runner with many parts missing. The present owners tried restoring it about 6-7 years back, and in the process quite a lot of the trim and other bits got stolen. Rust has pretty much taken over and Due to the high amount of parts missing, restoration will be for the strong willed.

P.s- the old pic is from somewhere in Tamil Nadu. In the last pic i've marked in red, text on the board which reads TNGST RC#

Now the ''mystery'' has been cleared. The car was used for a movie shooting in which it plays the palace car of the "THIRUVITHANCODE MAHARAJAH"'.The number plate was used just for shooting purpose.Shooting location is inside FORT area of Trivandrum city

Now the matter to be known is what is the genuine registration mark of this car? The other palace car in the same movie is a black ponton which is a regular in many adfilms. But this car does not belong to the person who owns the ponton.
Anyone who has connection with Production controllers in Trivandrum area may be able to find it out easily.

...I thought he was referring to the picture with the Bel Air and another car behind that. This is indeed a Mark 3.

If I'm not mistaken the Chevrolet Belair belonged to Tata Oil Mills (TOMCO) in Cochin, also to my memory the car was converted to diesel, with a Perkins engine as was the usual practice in those days. There were so many pristine American cars which met the same fate including a red Chevrolet Impala sport wagon V8 with a Hurst shifter (last seen in Chalakudy), several Buick straight 8s', even a 50's Cadillac Fleetwood had a Perkins 6 fitted to the original automatic gearbox(last seen in Mysore),there was another Cadillac, 47/48 model with a diesel engine, regularly seen at Lotus Club in the late 70's early 80's. Does anyone remember the red Pontiac GTO, in Ernakulam(near boat jetty), just rotted away, I wonder if anyone rescued it or was it scrapped. Most of these cars vanished many years ago.
Cheers,
SG

Yes, must be the same it was a 50's model, black colour, all the trim, interiors were in good condition,Tamilnad registered. One of those should have bought cars, available for 75k in the early 90's. Was put of because of the dieselisation, had located a GM V8 with auto trans to convert it back to petrol, just unlucky by the time I got my act together the car was sold up North was told Mumbai.Did pursue a 47/48 Cadillac (similiar to the Deccan Herald Cadillac, Bangalore) in Coimbatore in the early nineties, dieselised and badly maintained, used to be parked outside a garage in Sai Baba colony. Just could'nt meet the actual owner, wonder what happened to that car.
Cheers,
SG
