American classic??

Looks like an American classic from the 'Coke bottle styling' .
From the 1991 suresh gopi starrer 'AANAVAL MOTHIRAM" .
The said car seems to have been destructed in the movie itself.
The number plate shown on the car in the movie is not original

Mercedes

Malayalam movie makers of the 80's and 90's seemed to have a great fancy of Mercedes, going by the marques ubiquitous representation in their movies. Here are 3 W115's one LHD and the others RHD.

Indeed. There was even a movie named Benz Vasu. I recently watched it and it featured a Mercedes even though i did not see much relation between the title and the storyline. Not to forget other movies like Saamrajyam, Irupatham noottandu etc.

Re: Classics of Travancore, Cochin and Malabar

The movies Samrajyam had W123 , while Irupatham Nootandu, had mainly the newly introduced Racing Blue Maruti DX SB308 (which was launched at that time) and a Toyota Corolla Station Wagon KEV7079 and a white W123 in a minor prescence. All the cars were owned by the producer Aroma Movies

Did not know the producer connection to these cars. Thanks for sharing these, I am learning so much from you. And it looks like its the same/similar corolla wagon that was used in the movie Mazha Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu ? I could not find the number anywhere in the movie. Considering the year the movie was released possibly its the same car. I think KEV series started in 1982-1983.

There also used to be a Ford Cortina near Ambalamukku - similar to the one used by Kamalhassan in the movie Madanolsavam (the owner had a small shopping complex near Ambalamukku and the veteran actor Bharat Gopi used to visit him often - might be related to movie industry) Maybe its the same car. Guess it had TN registration even then.

Till recently there was a Morris Oxford or a similar car that used to lie under a huge cover of dust just before the Muttada junction. The house is opposite to the registrar office i think. I hope someone restored it.

I used to stay at Vazhuthacad till 1990. Neighbor had a Ford station wagon, the car was a petrol, LHD, the only problem was that it kept switching off very frequently while running though was in regular use. I think i have a picture of that car, let me try to find it out. Wondering where all these cars went ? Tvm had quite a number of classics for sure.

The car KEV-7079 is a 1985 registered leaf green corolla wagon,it was imported from Gulf(LHD) by a NRI in Vanchiyoor and later acquired by Aroma.
It could be the same one in Mazha peyyunnu Madalam Kottunu.
Ford Cortina- There was white Ford Cortina and a red one ,both were Kerala registered cars.TN registered one ,I am not aware of
Morris Oxford- is it the later version or the Hindustan 14 type?
If you remember the number of the LHD ford wagon, it could be traced. Is it a 1976 FORD GRANADA which belonged to the tourism department?
Trivandrum had a lot of classic cars ,although many have left for other states and some have been scrapped, quite a few still remain in covered garages in different parts of Kerala!!
