The car was in long term ownership in Cochin. In fact the car was first spotted in TBHP in 2009, thanks to JayD. See here (Classic Volkswagens in India)

Thanks ajmat.

Though, I acquired this car in the end of March, completed the paper work before transporting it to Bangalore. The flat bed left Cochin at 11 pm and was at my home by 7.30 a.m on Sunday!

The car is a 1967 VW1300. Amazingly original with most things intact. One of the factors which could be attributed to this car remaining original is that there were only 3 owners before me.

The car was registered in UK before shipping to Cochin, India. Car was imported by a Missionary working at the Tiruvalla Medical College.

Amazing amount of paper work is available, including the original invoice. Car cost GBP 470 and shipping was GBP 125.

Original Invoice. The car was in ownership of the Medical College till 1986.

The car arrived home in 8 hours!

The car was imported by a Miissionary who worked in the Tiruvalla Medical Mission and it was with them till 1986.There is only one medical college in Tiruvalla, the PushpagiriMedical College it was started only in 2002 and this car has no connection with that institution.Tiruvalla medical mission hospital is still working just beside the Tiruvalla railway station.

It was in regualar Service as as School bus for SN Central school Kayamkulam till a few years ago.As per the school authorities they had given it to a Scrap guy.
It is definitely not in Service because the Insurance is not active. If it is still surviving it is good!!

Lovely, thanks. "KRA" seems odd for a bus of this vintage. So likely reregistered from another state / from KSRTC regn ?

Often when a vehicle is decommissioned from some govertment service body like the state road transport department, the vehicle would be re-registered as a private vehicle. This is usually maybe around the time the vehicle turns 20 years or so...

Yes it's ex KSRTC, possibly old KLX registered or even older state registration.

Almost all of the fleet of the Tata-Benz buses from KSRTC was auctioned during the mid eighties. Till then it must have been having the KLX number.
