Is it the same MGA that appeared in the Prathap Pothen, Zarina Wahab starrer "Chamaram", a 1980 Malayalam movie? I had heard somebody remarking that the car owner was Prathap Pothen but I am not sure if it really was his.

I think it is the same one ,KLU-112.Prathap pothen never owned.It was first owned by a Royal family settled in Bangalore ,then a former Chief minister of kerala's son(hence the Quilon registration),later a dealer-restorer in Trivandrum, then an advocate in Cochin, and then reportedly went to North or western India.

A Japanese marque probably a TOYOTA from an 80's Malayalam movie.
American and Japanese cars seemed to be the flavour of the south indian movies those days.
