Vintage and Classic cars brought to life

Hi Guys,

I do not have much knowledge of vintage and classic cars but here are a few pics of vehicles getting restored at my mamaji's garage in Jaipur. The collection includes 5-6 Rolls, Lancia's, Buick's, Studbaker's etc.

Some of the Rolls that you see are in such a bad state and now are being brought to life. I'm a Jeep lover but when i saw these vehicles i just fell in love with vintage cars. I would love to learn from all of you.

Regards,

Randeep

Fantastic. Do please mention your mamaji's name and please post pictures regularly documenting the progress on these amazing cars. Most of those Rolls' are from the Dholpur collection of the former Rajasthan CM

Yes, Ms. Sindhia's 2 Rolls are being restored.

My mamaji's name is Bhupinder Singh and his work shop is called Auto Style.

These are the famous Dholpur Cars which have appeared many times before, even in foreign magazines. The Lancia is a Dilambda with Pininfarina body.
There are two comments. They should have taken up the restoration one by or max two by one/two. Not all at one time.
Secondly, the cars should not have been opened up completely, replacing all the wood. Only the bad pieces should have been replaced. This was also commented on by some experts who opined that opening up the cars completely was not required.
The Silver Wraith is not from Dholpur. I suspect that this is a Mysore Maharaja car which went from Bangalore fairly recently.
But a fantastic group of survivors!

Great to see more current pics of these cars. More history and pictures on the Dholpur cars can be found elsewhere on the forum. I think I recognise the little green Fiat, she was part of a Bombay collection till recently. Can you peek into the engine bay and give us the chassis/commission numbers of the dark blue MYO Rolls?

The little green Fiat is not the same, this is olive, that was light green. And the light green one went to Delhi.

Yes, I remember it being a lighter green, I figured since it has been recently painted I assumed it was the same. My mistake.

Its a Fiat 126. Mostly produced in Poland since 1973, it was affectionately known as the "Polski" Fiat.

It was very popular in Poland. They even made a rally version of the car. Last year a team from Top Gear magazine drove one such rally prepped car.

Sorry, this is only partly correct. The car is a Fiat 126, if it was made in Italy and wherever else, but it was known as a 126P if it was made in Poland. This P is for Polski, because of where it was manufactured, not because of affection. They also had a 125P. Many of these cars came to India as consulate cars. Build was quite good and so quite popular. But by now most have been rusted away.
Cheers Harit

I think there was also the Yugoslavian Zastava 126 and the Polski Fiat 126p was also sold in Australia as the FSM Niki 650. And on the topic of the Polski 'P' Fiat versions, there was also the Fiat 128 3P (wonder if the marketing gurus had anything to do with that nomenclature) hot-hatch version of the 128, which probably was made in Italy.

I had a 128 3P Berlinetta many years back. Had to scrap it because a tree fell on her. Also had a 126p for a couple of years around '89-90. That car was cute, but a dog (I absolutely love dogs, but not cars that behave mutty!!). The 128 3p Berlinetta was fabulous, shed a few tears even now.
