True sgiitk, as Amit says its a Wanderer. This car is permanently on display at Netaji Bhawan in South Central Kolkata, just behind Nizam Palace. Netaji's house is a beautifully maintained museum now with this car on display in the compound and lots of memorabilia inside the two floors of the sprawling building. There is a bookstore on the ground floor. The nearest Metro Rail station here is aptly named as Netaji Bhawan.

This does not seem to have been driveable as recently as 5 years .. Here are the 2 pics I have.

This is definitely not the car I was referring to. Sad how this car has been left to rot. I've seen old cars which are left to rot, some of the reasons being:

1) Poor health of the owner

2) Old age

3) Lack of interest from youngsters in the family

4) Inability to maintain the car and procure spares

I've always felt that in such cases owner's should pass on their cars to good homes (even if the money may not be upto the owner's expectation), rather than be sentimental and keep the car only to let it rot.

Around 20 years ago, my father had bought a Morris Minor saloon & an Austin 8 tourer. We enjoyed both cars thoroughly. A couple of years later, my father fell seriously ill and since I wasn't old enough to drive, the 2 cars were not being used at all. That is when my father decided to sell the cars.

The Austin didn't get any offer (it wasn't in good shape), so it was going to get sold for the metal and parts and ultimately scrapped in Mullickbazar. I was heart broken when I heard this and convinced dad to pass on the car without asking for money to a restorer friend. He agreed, the car was saved and restored and at the end, found a good home.

Wish something similar had happened with this car, unless of course it was in an accident.

From the little I could gather, reason number 3 could be a possibility.
It did not seem to be an accident car.

OT:
Why don't you turn up at one of the Kolkata meets? Would be nice to meet up.

Re: KOLKATA - Cars waiting to be Restored or Scrapped!

Here's a nice Morris Minor owned by an elderly gentleman I saw last spring having a Tune Up by a mechanic that works close to our to our flat.

It would be a nice car a nice car to restore.
Any idea what a car like this is going for these days?

Nice MM there.Looks to be in decent nick too.Prices of these have gone up to an extent in the past couple of years.Expect to shell out around 2.5 for one in such condition.3 at the max.Although I must admit its much more sensible to go in for an example like this that is somewhat a daily runner.Hope this helps.

I wasn't aware that there were Team-Bhp meets in Kolkata. Sure, tell me when and I'd love to attend.

Re: KOLKATA - Cars waiting to be Restored or Scrapped!

Mercedes W201 190E 2.3 (LHD)

Spotted lying outside its owner's house in South Kolkata. The car lies in the same spot on the pavement, but changes its direction every few days. That means it's still running, although I believe it's not driven anywhere, just made to face the opposite direction from time to time.

Before I became a BHP-ian, I had emailed these photos to GTO, who had posted them on the "Imports gathering dust" thread: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/super...ml#post4556697 (Pics: Imports gathering dust in India)

PS: I love "car-spotting" around the city and do it on a regular basis!

The lumber yard is located on the north side of Hazra a few blocks east of Landsdown. Try and speak to the older gentleman in the office. Their office is on the left of the passage into the workshop and lumber storage, with the show room on the right side.

If you do make a trip to visit, there are more cars in the area to look at.

1. I had posted photos of a cream Merc, Dodge & Morris Minor parked in a garage which is close to the lumberyard. Take the first street east of the lumber yard running south and on your left about 300 ft is the garage. I posted the owners name and phone number, might be worth a call.
2. On the north side of Hazra west of landsdown parked out side is an old late 30's Austin.
3. On the south side of Hazra in the same area is another Austin parked in a car park with gates.

So pleased you are doing a "walkabout" seeing what old cars are around and posting them.

When I return we will have spend some time cruising to gether!
I came across this post when I was searching for pics of W123. This particular W123 I believe is now in Mumbai (not sure for restoration or to be scrapped). seen it a couple of months ago in asad state.
