Shillong - Assam - 2007 Vintage & Classic Concours

While in Guwahati I was presented with a data stick of a marvelous event held in Shillong, a beautiful city filled with beautiful people. Last years Concours was canceled because of the unrest in that area, hopefully it will be held this year.

I've had to crop the photos down as they were taken at max resolution and am only able to post about 50% of them. Once the boys from Mac come over and load up another program I will post all of them.

Hope to attend the next Concours, if and when.

Just realized that by some good fortune all the photos have been reduced in size enabling me to post them all, except they are a little small, except one, don't know why but this one is for Karl! Tell me all the no original items,

Bah, everything is non original! headlights and therefore fenders are too big, parking lights and bumpers are rubbish, bonnet badge bar and centre light is incorrect, steering wheel, mirrors, wipers, washer nozzle...

Shillong has the maximum number of Willys, I guess. I have never seen so many of them anywhere else in India. And these Jeeps are used as regular workhorses! Some are maintained as classics

Karl, before you bah humbug the 'restoration' or 'manitenance' of these cars, you have to keep in mind one thing that Shillong, for that matter, the entire North-East does not have a parts markets unlike Delhi, Bombay and the South. So, you can't really pass it off like a fake job.

Yes, I agree some of the people there DO have bad tastes when it comes to automobile aesthetics. Half of Shillongs cars would qualify for the whacky mod thread.

Also, the awareness levels in North-East is not so high. For most of them its still a car, no matter how old. There are negligible car clubs there if any at all. And its only now that people are making conscious efforts for it.

Oh absolutely, dont misunderstand me. With lack of spares it is a wonder in itself that the cars are on road. Full marks for effort, its just that John asked me to list out whats wrong.

Ah! I do apologise then

Its just that I grew up in that region and I am still in awe and shock to find that there are so many priceless beauties there. I wish I could do something...

Here's some other photos for your viewing pleasure.

I thought you might enjoy looking at a friend's garage taken recently in Regina, Saskatchewan, one of our prairie Providences out in Western Canada, and we complain that it has been a mild winter here. The other shot is in his neighborhood.

I down loaded a photo of a car, a 1950s BMW Isetta 300 cc single cylinder, similar to one that I purchased in my last year of college and often drove home 230 miles to visit my folks. Normally top end was low 50 mph but when tailgating a big transport truck I could flying along over 60! Gas milage was unbelievable. MY parents weren't too happy with this and commented at least they wouldn't have to pay for a coffin!
Driving in the winter was a very interesting experience what will the two small wheels set 14" apart.

Hey John.

Any idea what car this is. Looks like a cross between a Ford Anglia and a prewar BMW three series.

Do tell.

NOT A CLUE!
Suggest you email Sanjeeb at "sanjeeb_bubu@rediffmail.com in Guwahati, I think he might know. In speaking with him he found out that the Shillong concours took place last fall and he will try and post it. Ask him for the contact person for that event so you can speak to the "horses mouth"
