You could be right, Harit. I'm not contesting that since I don't have any info on this car. But I'm only curious about how a Canadian registered vehicle can be right hand drive. Of course, Canada did make the export-bound RHD versions of many of the American cars, particularly the Fords, and there are some imported RHD vehicles running in the North Americas too. So I'm just curious, if someone did indeed import a RHD Jag in to Canada. Or worse still, could this be a later RHD conversion - I'm not getting into the wipers, etc. Aah, the joys of an auto fiend's convoluted mind.

The Volvo Amazon appears to have been spruced up this year.

Really, why do hobbyists have any agenda besides the enhancement of the movement? But then, obviously it's not just about the automobile now a days. Sad because the automobile is increasingly taking the back seat. But, in a strange way I'm also not complaining because at least there are more number of events thanks to the factions. The only problem is that one may not be in town on every occasion. The unhealthy one-upmanship, however, has also caused an improvement in the overall maintenance (and restoration) standards, albeit there's also a tendency to over-restore by some. And few of the owners enjoy being hands-on or even taking their old wheels out for a spin just like that, on a public holiday or late at night. Anyway, the common man like me is happy to see these old dowagers still running about at least during these events.

Nice pix, thanks Jai.

Maybe the owner of the Jag fancies himself as a Canadian. He would have returned from Canada with those plates off of his last vehicle there as a keepsake and has added them to the Jag .

Folks, the current owner mentions the car is from Calcutta originally, and came to Chennai via a restore job in Bangalore. He also clearly stated that the car has been in India since it was imported a couple of decades ago. He didn't have the original blue book, so he had to truck the car down.

Can 'KLE' correspond to some RTO in India possibly?

Pictures - should have posted them a while ago

Hey folks,

This post should have happened a week ago. Sorry for the delay, and also the quality of the pictures (which were shot on my mobile). Nonetheless, it was an awesome experience!

The Jaguar Mk11, is a 1967/68 model and correctly would be identified as a Jaguar 240 or 340.

These were produced at the end of the MK11 run and were a stripped down model without the lower driving lights, standard interior was a vinyl, no trays on the back of the front seats. The slim bumpers came off the S series. If the cam covers have polished ribs with black recessed areas, then it would be a very late 68 as these heads came of of the XK sports car.

A rare car for the Mk 11 series.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage in England are able to confirm matching Numbers and date of manufacture.

I would like to contact the owner if possible, they have a great car and can fill in some more details.

Suggest you check out my garage to see my 68 Jaguar 340.

Is that really a 300 SEL 6.3?

Hi, sorry to open up this old thread. Just chanced upon it, and discovered a few gems.

The first is the gold Merc. From the front, it appears like a Mercedes 300 SEL!

For the uninitiated, the Mercedes 300SEL was the world's first "sleeper" or Q car (supercar performance from an ordinary saloon body). It was made by shoehorning the 600 model's 6.3 ltr V8 into the 300 SE saloon.

experts, any inputs on this particular car? It might turn out to be the only 300 SEL in India!

Somehow Predator's and my path keep on crossing. He objected to my style of presentation on the creativity and wrong dating activity in Calcutta, but never lost any words for the culpits. They tried to fool all of us.
The brown Merc shown is not a 300SEL, it is a simple 280SE which has been extreemly well restored. I know, because I was the previous owner! But, they have a 300 or so 6.9 for restoration, a Mumbai car.

Austin Atlantic's were there in India, 2 convertibles and a sedan. Wasif may know, one was in Hyderabad. All other facts put are correct, it was indeed a flop. Some cars became rare because they were attrocious.

Hope Predator finds no fault with this post. Could not resist a barb, willing to stop this in future by mutual agreement.

Cheers harit

No Harit, no offence taken whatsoever. In fact, could not resist a grin at the cheeky post. As long as the banter is directed towards me, sab chalta hai!

Coming back to the Merc, disappointed and surprised in equal measure. Hardly even had a decent look at the profile of the car. The reason I suspected it to be a 300 SEL was because of the extra driving lights beside the headlights. It couldnt have been a coupe in any case, as the chrome strips below headlights proved. So just took a guess.

Hi Pedator,

Frankly I did not understand this post. Why should it be that when banter is directed at you, it is OK. But when I go hammer and tongs at something being done wrong, specially by some people from your city, you get upset. Please remember, what we post here should generally not be taken personal as long as there is no malicious intent. And you do not have to take any flak on anyones behalf. I am of the opinion that when you come on the forum and post, you automatically expose yourself to anything, be it new friendships developed or brickbrats. This matter of the Citroen and Fiat would have come out anyway as the cars landed up in Mumbai.
Some did not like my posts, others loved them, but whatever, nothing personal against anyone. And I make friends through bhp, not enemies.
Continue to enjoy the hobby, but why take flak for anyone.
Hope you will be able to find time to meet when you are next time over here.

Cheers harit
