Re: Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India

Here is an ad for the Panchgani Motor Service in erstwhile Poona that appeared in a book about the Parsi community's contribution to sports in India dated 1934. I remember reading this name elsewhere in the past but cannot make the connection at this point.

Srinand posted this lovely photo here (Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars)

I believe Madras Motors were also part of the local operations of Royal Enfield? Can any of our Madras friends tell us more? Note the George Oakes building alongside.

Re: Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India

Cross posting an old post that I came across today, a couple of pages from The Poona Guide and Directory from the 1920s

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/vinta...ml#post3054877 (Vintage Related Memorabilia)

Two ads of interest are N Mehta & Co, East Street, which also advertises cars on hire for long distance

The other is Mody & Co, East Street, selling such strange bikes as "Norton, Wooler, Hobart & Metrotyler Motorcycles and Milford and Montgomery sidecars"!

Re: Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India

Chanced upon these two period images of Metro Motors, Bombay. The building still stands, and is still a car dealership, presently for Mercedes.

Re: Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India

Came across a very interesting item - what appear to be glass slides/plates used in a printing process probably.

Dealerships, Coachbuilders, Vehicle Assembly in India-img_8831.jpg

They list out the following dealerships
  • Triangular Motors, Sandhurst Bridge, Bombay
  • Booley's Garage, 37 South Parade, Bangalore
  • Rajagopal Motor Works, 1, Lang's Garden Road, Madras
  • G McKenzie & Co Ltd, 208 Lower Circular Road, Calcutta
