A Packard Coupe at the Rajabai Clock Tower, Bombay.

On the left corner is an interesting registration "BNP-1"

Very nice! Its not too clear to me, there is a slight possibility it is BMP or BWP as well. If BWP, then Bahwalpur may have been visiting? We do have BMP as a commercial vehicle series. Car looks pretty upmarket too.

are we certain this is a Birla car? Sir Sriram of DCM too had a white/cream coloured Packard which used to be put at Mahatma Gandhi's disposal. His brother, Sir shanker Lal had a Lincoln Zephyr.

Going by the unique bumpers on the Bombay car, it could be a 1935-37 Humber Sixteen / Eighteen Wingham; or a Humber / Hillman Hawk of the same period.

And Karl, the registration does seem to be BMP or BWP.

Another classic snap shared by a friends Grandfather who was a pilot . This is some part of Mumbai but they currently reside at Nepeansea Road and aspect it was taken by his uncle at Haji Ali . The car was sold to a perfume merchant in late 60s in Mahim. He has a copy of the books so have asked for the registration number . Sadly the only snap they have in possession . This is a 110 six cylinder . With the smoothest gearbox he has ever used ! On an American car

Cheers

Re: Packards in India

Time for me to put up a Packard pic, one of my favourite marques. It's a bathtub convertible, 1948, pic taken about 30 years ago. The car still exists
At the rear it appears like a lowered "Shaadi" (wedding) umbrella, it is the trunk lid open.

Cheers

Packards in India-packard-sheikh-mukhtar-smuggler-1966-tbhp.jpg

Here is a "Sheikh Mukhtar" beast, quite different from the magnificent ones we have gotten used to seeing from shyml lately.

Movie: Smuggler, 1966

Here is another view possibly of the same car which may be a hire car for weddings and movies. The car in the movie is RHD, the known survivor is also RHD. Have to go home and check the numbers on the car photographed in Brabourne Stadium with all those film stars.

Cheers harit

An early Packard for sure. Could anyone identify these kids? Maybe a Modi connection Karl?

Re: Packards in India

The wheel rims are American and like on a Packard, but the radiator shell shape and length of bonnet is not Packard, neither are the lamps. IMHO.
