Re: Packards in India

Cross-posting on my favorite thread.
KartikeyaL posted this Packard from Madras on the nostalgic-automotive-pictures thread. Here it is:

Member swissknife stated that
"The persons standing next to MSP 6996 appears to the famous actors N.S. Krishnan and his wife T.A.Madhuram".

Very nice.

Re: Packards in India

This Packard Clipper from Bangalore, was in long term ownership with one family. The KVCCC Members were hoping that one of us would get an opportunity to buy it. Unfortunately for us and before anyone could realize this car was sold on to MH.

This could be a preservation class car.

Re: Packards in India

Thanks again to Shrivardhan Kanoria for these gems.

Quote:
Another blast from the past - 1934 Packard Super 8 - bought by my father, Sri Shashi Kumar Kanoria, in the 1970’s directly from the Maharaja of Nawalgarh, Rajasthan. He serviced the car and drove it down to Calcutta. Back then the roads from the interiors of Rajasthan, were not even motor able, which he negotiated, along with the highway drive all the way to Calcutta.

The sole reason for letting go of this beauty in the 1980's was that he wasn’t particularly fond of cars post 1930 (which he later repented)

Ever heard of Aimila Automobile Company in Bombay? I always thought that it was only Dadajee. Maybe someone knows how to ask the source for more info.

Cheers harit

Re: Packards in India

What a thread! I am just stunned to see the level of restoration by some of you. It would be great if one of you who own a Packard shares a thread (more like a teambhp review). I am sure we would love to read how it rides, pics of engine and suspension etc.

What is that metal grill found at the rear in these cars? To carry luggage or to sit during picnics.

Folding luggage carrier. I am sure an elephant could sit on them too.
