Thanks for the inputs Joren. I finally managed to obtain a used carb from Malaysia for a reasonably good price. It was plug and play, works perfectly well. I appreciate your inputs as I am planning to get the original carb refurbished and retain it as a spare. Thanks again.

If I go by looks alone, you might need to overhaul more than just these parts. The needle looks rough, so you might have to replace the seat as well.

The most common failure on these carburettor is the large membrane which functions as a damper. If the oil in the carburettor needs filling up, your membrane is torn. It will also affect proper idling.

Carburettors are finicky machines. I would always replace every gasket and O-ring of any part I have taken off.

All parts of these carburettors are still for sale here in Europe. The problem is that Mercedes used a number of different variants of this type. Even the VIN number of your W123 won’t give the exact carburettor parts.

I am lucky having one of the best stocked carburettor webshops in Europe a couple of miles away from us. I took my disassembled Stromberg W123 carburettor to him and he found every gasket, O ring and seal!
