Here are some pix of the bus. This was one of the first 3 buses which started plying on the streets on Tamil Nadu. It was modified in those days, by the Ingenious GD naidu, to run on Coal. Tha apparatus you see in the rear of the bus converts the coal into usable fuel for the engine. it still runs the original engine, and works too!!

Wow thanks chettAn, and welcome back !!
The bus looks awesome. Love that coal contraption at the back. Must've been a sight when she plied the streets !
Would love to get my hands on that Citroen sometime !
What a place. I've bookmarked it as a 'must visit' spot on my future "great road trip across India" (whenever that happens).

So does that mean this is a coal-gas driven bus??! Wow, that's something rare!!

I'd once heard of a 20s or so coal-gas driven chevy lying in a garage in Vijayawada, AP, a few years ago. 'never got to go check it out though!

Heard about such buses from old people.the description slightly varies.they said wood pieces are burnt to run the bus(I don't know exact theory) and It seems that was the norm some 70-80 years back in rural areas.
