This bug use to be owned by Shri A K Hangal's and later sold to Moreno - Pianist at Taj hotel and later resold to a gentleman in Mahim whom I know well. It is a 72 1300cc Super Beetle. As a matter of fact this car did come for the FCCCI rally on Sun, Feb 6th.

This ad by Audi shows some ingenuity. They try to cosy up to world cup by gifting a Q7 to Yuvraj Singh for being the man of the series. And this was announced after all was over.
But in 1983, at the beginning of the tournament, the Audi 100 was announced as the prize for the man of the series, which was open till the last game. Since Ravi Sastry scored the required runs, above 50 as far as I remember, the car was awarded to him.
The entire team sat in/on the car and drove one round, Amarnath clutching a milk bottle (which I have erased) and the car was actually taken back to remove the minor damages and then shipped to India. RTO honoured Ravi by giving him the 1st number of a new series, MFA 1. That car must be still around, I have seen it many times in Worli.
And some dealer from the Gulf had gifted a couple of years of spares.

But this was certainly not the first Audi in India, though they were few and far between. Like a 1st gen Audi 80 Chennai registered running in Mumbai.

After this a few more Audi's came to India, one very popular car was the Audi 80 - B3/Type 89 made between 1986 to 1991. That was very popular, lot of big shots had them till it was found that the engine capacity was misdeclared. And the cars were collected by the authorities and duty differential had to be paid up. Now we hardly see them.

Seen in the Times of India recently. This is not true when one considers all India. But undoubtedly there are many genius mechanics in and from Bengal.
The car pictured is the famous Buick McLaughlin now in the Mallya collection, having been bought to India for a royal visit.
