Where is it now? - Lost & Found Classics

Most of us here have had some car or bike that we were very attached to or have had fond memories of as we grew up. More often than not these vehicles were disposed off as and when they became impractical to keep using. I myself have often hoped that I could come across these cars in the present day.

I propose we take advantage of the vast reach of this forum to try and track down cars we have been looking for.

To begin with from my side here is a list of cars we have had in the (extended) family over the years that I wonder if anybody else has seen of late.

1935 Standard 10 BMW 2699 (Black, Bombay. Sold in 60s.)
1940s Wolseley BMY 6244 (Black, Bombay, sold in 60s.)
1948 Studebaker Champion BMZ 3482 (originally black and then it was repainted Grey. Poona.)
1948 Buick Super BYK 555 (two tone beige and brown)
1948 Standard 8 BYF 8789 (Black, Probably Pandharpur.)
1949 Austin A40 UPR 4949 (Kanpur, then Poona.)
1952 Dodge BMU 3198 (grey and repainted Dark Blue, Poona)
1952 Hillman Minx WBC 8781 (lime green, Calcutta)
1955 Standard 10 BYH 1997 (Black, sold in 1959, Poona)
1957 Plymouth Savoy MHP 970 (Black, Poona) (Earlier number KLR 381, bought from some American missionaries in Kerela.)
1959 (?) BMF 5777 Black Standard Super 10 (Poona.)
1962 Standard Herald MSW 7662 (Dark blue and white, Madras. Sold in 60s.)
1962 Fiat 1100 MRX 8212 - (Black, Bombay/Poona, sold in 73, probably scrapped)
1962 Standard Companion DLI 628 (Black, Delhi, then Poona.)
1962 Fiat MRY 2107 (Beige and repainted Black, Bombay)
1962 (?) Ambassador KLE 1259 (Black, Cochin).
1964 Ambassador MHY 780 (Blue, Bombay)
1964 Standard Herald MRD 5893 (Dark blue, Bombay)
1965 Fiat MHP 3583 (Blue with white top. Poona, sold in early 80s.)
1967 Standard Herald MHJ 1074 (light blue, painted white after being sold in mid 80s)
1967 (?) Ambassador Mk2 WBJ 2352 (Calcutta)
1971 Fiat MHI 3793
1971 Fiat MHI 3811 (Poona, one was white and the other was light green)

Looking forward to additions from you guys to this list from family elders, photos etc.

Nice idea Karl your folks look likr they had a thing for black cars huh?

Now if I was to look for a few cars from my family's past these would be them

1. Singer Le Mans brought to India by my grandad after he finished studies in UK around early thirties. HYX reg then APX no idea where it went.

2. Willys Woody Wagon no idea what year but was also APX in black.
3 My dads Vauxhall Velox 1950 dark gree / light green APY reg.
4 Fiat 1100D APW 6969. This is the car i learned to drive in was sky blue later turned deep green
5. Premier Padmini ATY 3838. The car I had the most fun driving. White colour
6 Maruti SS80 AHX 989. Regretablly totalled by me one night and then brought to life again by some shady garage red in colour.

These are to start with to be added to later.

Well IMHO, in those days, black seemed to be a popular colour choice in cars, contrary to recent times where white is.

BTW, how come you left out your Herald from the list??!

Do mention her as well- what was the number (and it was white, right?)

Wow, 'didnt know you had these 2 cars in your family as well! 'not sure if you'd mentioned them. Any pics. you could get of these?

Anyways, here's a bit from me- unfortunately my family had very few and far in between when it came to cars!

But here's one that was prominent in my mom's family:

MSP 3331, an early 50s black Lincoln owned by my mom's uncle (loose term) in Madras until about the mid 60s, when it had an accident and was sold off. Some told me it was bought by the owner of Amalgamations India ltd.(?) Any idea about this car?

MSP 891, a '48 black Hillman Minx owned by a friend when in Madras in the late 60s (who incidentally, on selling it, had bought a '62 Companion MSV 2219, later re-reg'd AAY 3131, bought recently by me)

More as I come to know the regn. nos. etc.

Like I mentioned, this includes extended family too. No pics unfortunately.

Does anyone remember this Austin wagon? I would regularly see it many years back at Canopus Apts. in Pune. Took these pictures with a disposable camera my father bought me for sightings much like this one.

It was similar to this, don't remember it that clearly as I never actually saw it. have some pictures of it in California but I remember it was much nicer looking. the tail on this car pictured doesn't look like it is original.

There was a Chevy Impala/Biscayne/BelAir 1960-1962 with the registration MRY 5555, metallic brown in colour in the Mumbai Mayor's garage. Where has she gone?

Wasif's search for Singer Le Mans.

Wasif, I was in Delhi recently, and saw fotos of a Singer Le Mans that surfaced recently. It is now owned by two brothers who have a workshop in Connaught Place called Krishna Garage. The two brothers are Gyan nad Prem Sharma. Talk to them and check out. I do not have regn.no details. Good luck.
