Superb pic Harit !! Some of the signboards on the corner building are STILL unchanged . (my obsession with classic signboards continues - maybe I'll start a thread on this in the 'shifting gears' section' !!)
@Shyam: Yes, it does look like a Wolly !

Apparently they were here also. This is one photo of 6, it is a Citroen, apparently belonged to Royalty. I got them as glass negatives, had to carefully handled and printed as glass can break, and the negatives can get scratched. No number plate is visible.
In one photo this Citroen is stuck, and labour is clearing a path. In this picture it is standing on an embankment, in another it is in sand.
Does anyone know more about halftracks in India?
Nice reflection, if only waters were more still.

Cheers harit

An early Fiat 500 Topolino a.k.a 'bug' fiat, seems to be in Madras going by the MSP regn.

Photo said to have been taken around 1952.

Nice Lambretta! First time though, I've seen a lady pillion sitting the other side (facing right) on a scooter! Or maybe they just hopped on to it to pose for the photo, considering they didnt even take the scooter off the centre-stand!
Its possible the scooter wasnt even theirs.

Another one for Stanher. They misused the luggauge carrier.

This is a chassis of an Austin or Morris, most probably. Why the chassis with all upholstry in place is a mystery to me. Any comments?

Cheers harit

Probably a display vehicle at an institute. Possibly working too, which would explain the seats.

This picture is dated 1945 when the Japanese occupied China and America made it their issue to intervene via Calcutta.

Can anyone identify the street and the taxi?

This should be a Morris 8 as the gear lever for the Austin 8 in the picture does not match.

Also note that Austins 8 and even the 10 had twelve almost round holes on the periphery of the wheel discs (second picture).

The wheel disc of the Morris 8 wherein similar holes are tough to count in this picture but may also be 12.The picture below confirms that the Morris 8 too had 12 such holes.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Just came across this query.....this is a Citroen Type C 5CV Torpedo, possibly 1923-1926 bought by me in 1981 in Chennai & now in the collection of Rashid bhai in Hyderabad.

I am not 100% sure, but this Citroen is the 1919 which was picked up around the same time as the Lagonda in Hyderabad and went to Chennai. From Chennai she went to an estate in Bangalore and then on to amchi Mumbai.
Anyone knows better?

Cheers harit

The street is modern day Esplanade. The building on the far right is the LIC building, the building to the taxi's right is Metro Cinema.

The taxi seems to be an early Dodge?
