re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Hi Harit,
I was associated with racing at Chennai in many ways.First as a participant.Second as part of organising the races-Chief Track Marshall.Later under Bosses orders; since I was part of UCAL and UCAL Chairman was the MMSC President! Thus it is not difficult for me to recall names & identify them.

Harit,
That most excellent photo of Neyveli1 with the single deckers in the shed, can you send me a higher resolution photo please since knowing their registrations would add to our knowledge of commercial ones.
Cheers
Cedric

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Gentlemen,
This is a photo that I got from a friend of mine and I believe the caption says it all. I am guessing it is early 30s and the registration is a Punjab one.
It looks like it is from a very old newspaper cutting but I have no more information.

If I recall vaguely, this photo was published in Maharashtra times. I guess this rush was because of power failure in Mumbai which had resulted in a mad rush for Best buses in evening by office goers. This happened some time in late 80's or early nineties.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Some time ago, IIRC in this thread itself, I had posted a pic. (not able to find it now) of a Chevrolet pick-up/van owned by late N T Rama Rao (a.k.a NTR), modified/customised for his use during his first campaigning for CM of AP in the early 80s. The vehicle was then christened as 'Chaitanya Ratham'

Here are some better pics. of the 'Ratham' found in a Facebook album. The number is ABR 7776, a later date (maybe around late 70s/early 80s as NTR had been living in Madras until then.)
The front grille seems all intact in one pic. but is missing a 'tooth' in the rest!

Also of an Amby used by NTR. The pic. showing the exterior seems to be retouched a bit.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Continuing further, found one more pic. of NTR's 'Chaitanya Ratham' on FB, this time a colour one. Only a side-view pic. though. It says "Telugu Desham" , the name of NTR's political party, on the side in Hindi and Telugu (although it should've been DESAM)
It shows the front bumper chromed here though, whereas in the other/B&W pcis. it appears dull.

Stanher, thats really nostalgic in a "Nostalgia" thread. The Hindu, Ennadu, The Indian Express and other Hyderabad/ AP newspapers of those days carried this "Rath's" pictures almost every day. It was 1982 I believe, when NTR formed his Telegu Desam outfit and toured every nook and corner of AP state from Telangana to Rayalseema to the coastal tracts before the state elections. He was voted to power with a thumping majority. The Chaitanya Ratham was his vehicle to tour places especially the hinterland, even after he was CM.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Recently I was in Kolkata in transit, on returning to Mumbai I received some lobby cards of Bengali Films which I cannot read. Please inform name of movie and who the actors are. Note the railing welded on the car, must have been put to prevent him from falling out in case of stunts.

Cheers harit

The movie is Chhutir Phande, which in a literal translation means "In the Holiday trap" . The man sitting is legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee, while the man wielding the knife is Bankim Ghosh.

The caption at the bottom of the pic says the movie's name, and that its director is Mr Salil Sen, and that the movie has been presented by "Chandimata Films".

Eagerly waiting for more such pics.

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Some pictures from a friend in Hyderabd.

There is a Nizam State Roadways van that needs identifying along with that Tourer with the top up and a driver inside, cant figure out what it could be.

The other pictures are of a Ford Model T and what looks like a Fiat 509

re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Nice pictures Wasif. Fiat 501 is the car, not 509. 509 had stright lines for the radiator, not unlike that of a Rolls.

Predator wanted more movie pics, here is one more, please translate for us.
The corners of this picture are damaged and lots of pin holes can be seen, that is because these pictures were pinned up many times.

Cheers harit
