Can anyone identify the car in this middle picture? It looks rather unique.

I was sent this photo recently and I believe it should be of interest.
I know little of the date or place that this photo was taken except that it is said the USR registration refers to US Relief (as in US Army) vehicles during the second world war in India. Someone reckons the Ford could be an early 1930s model. Just who or what the US Army was relieving is a mystery. Unless anyone out there knows?
Cheers
Cedric

Thats a superb picture, though it isn't a Ford, that is a late 20s early 30s Austin 7. Any more pics similar to this? We'd love to see.

That is really astonishing!
I showed both the pictures to my mother and she also enjoyed the same. She remember the jeep vaguely as she is bad at remembering regd numbers. However, she recollected this as the 'chotti wali jeep'.
The black Moris whose photo has been put up by Amit v8 is also WBB regd.

Sadly I didn't get any other pictures apart from the USR Austin.
WBA-WBZ was issued in West Bengal (probably Calcutta itself) from 1947 to 1973 as far as I know.
Cheers

It looks like an early 30's chevrolet to me Karl. Similar to the one at Worli next to the bakery.

Hi,
glad you mentioned our Ford Consul, it was registered first in Madhya Bharat ,as seen in the photo.Later in 1958 when Madhya Bharat was merged with CP(central province) it changed to MPB 2503 (yes I still remember the reg #).we had the car in oue family till 1964 when my father sold it to some in Bombay.

The best part is I used to see it near Regal Cinema in Bombay as late as in 1967 as I used to visit Bombay once or twicw a year. Some how this car left very good memories in my mind .I recall it had the left b& right signal indicators which were ARROWS in orange plastic body popping out mechanically.

Incidently I spend 3 years (1963-1965) in Indore and recall that there were 4
Councel cars and 3 Zeper Six cars in our colony,New Palasia.Naturally we knew the names of the ownwers as there were few in those days.

Thanks for your intrest in the old beauties.

regrads,

Uday Naik
