Thanks. This is Mountbatten's Sunbeam Talbot, with Nehru holidaying at Simla. There are more pictures posted earlier (from Photo Division).

According to the local RTO site, APU9000 is still in the name of the Satya Sai Trust and still active- though Dieselised! Not sure about the present condition otherwise though.

5 - Lambretta 3 wheeler , undated pic , incidentally , the place in the background is still the same , with the water tower (my Calcutta friends would know what this is ) . The company was founded in 1865 and is still going strong
Lovely, thanks! Car in pic 4 seems to be KAM regd? The car I think we discussed earlier, maybe a Kaiser Henry J or something like that.

Populars or Prefects were never this big. I would agree with a big Hillman.

Old posts, had been meaning to comment earlier. The bus on the extreme left in Fintail's photo is a Thornycroft for sure. There was an agent in Bombay by the name of Hind Motors and they sold these chassis to PMT. The bus bodies were built by General Motors. I have photos of a line of these buses at GM in brand new condition and being delivered. When a photo comes in my hand I will post it. The other bus may be a Guy, but maybe also a Leyland or a Daimler. BEST had single and double Decker buses from Daimler which were automatic.

Here is a photo of some issue with a tram in Bombay. This place still exists, but has been radically transformed. Does anyone know the location, it looks so familiar.

Cheers harit

In the first picture we can immediately recognise the location as Bombay's Horniman circle. It hasn't changed much, and its a nice setting for our classic car rallies

Seeing the pictures was like a blast from the past. Thanks Vinay

The One in the portico - is a Fiat 1800 - 1968 or 69 Model. This car was a gift from the Sai Baba's follower from Uganda, after Baba's one only visit outside of India to Uganda in 1969 (I amy be off by a year about this).

This car was gifted to the Late Rajmata of Jam Nagar and is still believed to be in the garage of her residence adjoining the Sai Baba asharm in Whiltefield, Bangalore.

The building - is Prashanthi Nilayam in Putaparthy, circa 1970, before it was modified as it is today

The APU 9000, is a 1964-65 Impala Station Wagon, imported from Canada in 1966 for the Trust for use in the Rural Hospital

Its rather sad to hear about it being dieselized. It originally had a in line 6, Petrol engine.

Had a lot of miles behind the wheels of that car (in fact on both cars) once up on a time long long ago. Still recall the trips back to Whitefield after the car was serviced in Webbs Garage, MG Road Bangalore, via the HAL Road. The ride time for APU 9000 from MG Road to Whitefield via HAL was like 20-25 minutes max (night time, empty roads & driver/s in teens or early 20s )

Best Regards & Drive Safe

Ram

Belgaum registered. MYL was a Belgaum registration.

The car seems to have a Premier Padmini grille on it.
