Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Dear Harit - the pictures of the Mahindra Jeeps MMG1407 and MMG1403 are of 1980. From the second year onwards, the windshield was covered by a folding mesh, which is not seen in these photographs, so these are 1980. The cars were prepared at the Metro Motors workshop at Opera House. MMG1407 crew members were Minoo Nanavaty / Darayus Bhathena / Gavin Hurtis. MMG1407 crew members were Karl Gustaf Fosmark / Naresh Chhabra. In the first photograph, you can see Minoo at the wheel of MMG1407. In the second photograph, you can see Karl on the right side of the car. Unfortunately in 1995 rally, Karl passed away in an accident in MMG1403 and Naresh was hospitalized in Delhi for a long time.

To complete the nostalgia, I am posting a photograph of my 1983 Himalayan Rally Jeep MAR2840, that's me in the driver seat. You can also read the full information on the "Himalayan Rally - A Flashback" thread on this forum : link.

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

This is another photo from the Juhu airport races. This is a Fiat MRD 6896 being raced by Jasmine Dodhiwalla. Anyone knows about her?

Cheers harit

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

I got a set of negatives about 2 months ago and scanned them about a month ago. In this photo of a Ford A it is me standing on the left of the car. That was a shocker.
This was in about 1976, the car belonged to Vohra's, still does so but a few parts which came of the restoration of their car and were discarded were acquired and used in my car.
This photo was taken on Marine Drive, taking a left turn at Hotel Oberoi after the Air India building.
I have shared this pic on FaceBook before, and share it with all others.

This is a nostalgic photo of myself!

Cheers harit

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

Hope this pic. is nostalgic enough though not B/W! Sent to me on whatsapp by a young(er) friend who found it in a facebook group- a Standard Herald mk2 and Padmini(?) used in rallying down South (the number seems to be MYO so could've been in Bangalore? Or Coimbatore/Sholavaram?) Seems to date to the late 70s/early 80s.

Here is a picture of Dr. K E Thomas with his 1941 Buick at Quilon (now Kollam). His son George Thomas gave me this picture, taken in the late 40's

KPS, any information on the car's history / provenance ?
Seems to have a flag mast on the fender, was it a "State" car ?

Checked with family, this car was bought new by Dr. K E Thomas and he had it till 1952. After this car was sold on, the family did not keep track of it.

What looks like the flag mast is actually a fender guide.

And a superb photo it is. The 1941 40 series had a smaller straight 8 engine, 262 inch, I recall, and the 50, 60, and 70 models would boast the 320 inch version. Incidentally, 40 became the special, 50 became the Super, 60 became the Century, and 70 the Roadmaster. That same straight eight finally gave way to the 322 inch overhead valve V-8, vertical valve engine, except for 1953 special, which kept the straight eight one extra year. I had the pleasure to own a 1953 Special two door hard top, aqua and white. Those were wonderful years to grown up in.
