Wonderful. This building, I am happy to report, stands as is, very well maintained and grand. I have visited many times in official capacity for meetings etc. It is a trio which my father told me were quoted as examples of supreme build quality by PWD. The other two are the Punjab Assembly building and the Civil Lines Police station at Queens road.
These were all constructed by Sikh contractors of great repute and are their pride and joy. Even many years after partition, they would write to PWD Lahore to inquire about the functioning of these building. I think their names may be Mohan Singh & Sohan Singh. They may be the same family which owned the estate at Rawalpindi which served as the Presidency for a long time.
Most of Lahore's grand buildings have been built by Sikh artisans and engineers and are spectacular. Sir Ganga Ram being the dynamo and peerless leader of civil engineering in this part of the world. Wonder what type of cars he drove as he was indeed a well to do person.

Superb! Is the owner's name mentioned?

This same car was also photographed at the Bombay Speed Trials, along with JRD Tata's Bugatti and some other fine machinery. Looked menacing with fenders removed.

Unfortunately not. Probably one of the Wadias ? But then, they would have gotten it through the Bombay Cycle and Motor Agency.

The Chrysler (owned by D.R.D.Wadia), the Vauxhall 30-98 of F.D.Petit and the Tata Bugatti were fierce competitors in the 1927/28 Speed Trials season.

The diminutive Bugatti kept its rear mudguards on!

Wonderful pictures. The Eastern Court housed the Post and Telegraph office in the later years - not sure how its used these days. A Ford Custom is seen parked. And the Western Court also on Janpath, just opposite the Eastern Court houses MP's in a transit accommodation, before they are allotted quarters.

The Yojana Bhavan car parking is also interesting. It should be a picture from the 1960's or early 1970's seeing the cars. The official Ambassadors of the seniormost officials are parked near the porch, as is the practice in most govt departments. There was no fancy for whoite Ambassadors those days. The departments took delivery of whatever coloured car was allocated to them. The Fiats (all of them) and some other Ambassadors seen could be private cars.
