A.k.a Marwar Jn.? OK. But what could explain the white plate? Back in those days, as we know, only commercial vehicles used them, while private (non-commercial) ones had only Black plates with white lettering?

Pic from the net for reference; I thought the bumper guard gives a clue.

Could the other car be a ate 20's Packard? The indented wheel hubs also seem Packard style.

Re: Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars

I chanced upon these 2 superb pictures on the Instagram page "elsewheregoa" featuring the Sequeira family

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-ss.png

Nostalgic automotive pictures including our family's cars-rr.png

They show an SS Jag supposedly driven from Bombay to Goa in 1939, and a rather interesting anecdote!

More interesting for me is what appears to be a Rolls 20hp Tourer, a car that I cannot identify outright. I assume it was shot in Bombay or Goa, subject to correction. Possibly the fenders had been modernised at some point? Hoping the experts can shed more light.

Looks like they were all guillotined.

I had always thought that "off with their heads" was somehow related to the French Revolution. Seems it came from, of all places, Alice in Wonderland.

Nice to see an old skool pic. from Hyderabad!

These are all obviously 'baraat' cars that were hired out for wedding processions. Hence the roofs were chopped off and they were invariably painted red (in some cases, white). These cars were incidentally available for throwaway prices back then!
The old Chevys (all commonly called "Umpalas" by these guys|!) were their preferred choice, and so were even Heralds!
Used to see them lined up opp. Nizam college for years until the late 90s, and then they eventually disappeared, the current choice of these guys being chopped Contessas!
BTW, note the first Chevy in the second pic. has had its rear doors welded shut, to make it appear a 2-door!!
